Advantages: Quirky gameplay, Addictiveness
Disadvantages: Possible lack of longitivity, Addictiveness
This version of the slippery puzzler is the latest in a string of titles. Firstly there was wetrix for the N64, which incidentally also made an appearance on the Dreamcast. Why has the wetrix series been so popular? Well firstly it is a prime example of pure gameplay. This combined with a annoying, yet addictive soundtrack, forms a game that simply cannot be put down. Aqua aqua, thanks to the power of PS2, is the most graphically impressive game in the series. However can you honestly say that graphics and gameplay alone constitute a good game? Well in my opinion, yes. Even gameplay alone can produce a good game; just think about “Tetris” on the gameplay. This is a sheer classic, even if it as graphically impressive as Billy Hague’s manifesto Well ill give you a run down of what Aqua Aqua, and indeed the whole series, is all about. Basically there is a square piece of land in the middle of your screen. It is viewed from an isometric angle. Pieces of a puzzle begin to fall from the heavens and you have a certain time to align them before they fall onto your landscape. (If your beginning to draw connections with Tetris, then your right to do so, the shapes are basically carbon copies of those found there) As these pieces fall on to your landscape you objective is to build walls that then form lakes, which in turn can hold the water that falls. The aim of the game is to survive for as long as possible without the water flooding of the landscape to an extent as you drown your little, telly tubby like, creature below. The reason I love aqua aqua is that it goes beyond the boundaries of traditional games: it gets you thinking. Even though it may be aimed at children, people of all ages can enjoy a blast on the slippery puzzler. Other features that are included in the game are: · Water clouds fall, similarly to blocks, which you then have to distribute in the correct containment area. ·
A 2 player versus mode, basically why I bought the game if I am honest! · Story mode: super hard- Well too hard far me · Fire balls that fall and dry up the lakes · Earthquakes that occur when you have built your land too high, these are super destructive and more time than not, mean the end of your game. · Little comments from your little podgy character, cute at first, annoying after about 10 minutes. · If you build a lake that’s big enough you get a little lake creature swimming around in it- that earns you more points. Every playstation 2 owner should attempt to get their grubby mitts on a copy of this game. For the bargain price of only £15 you cannot even contemplate a single moan. If you have kids in the household, they’ll love it. It also gives you an excuse to buy it. Oh yeh and buy the way, there’s even a secret dolphin that you can unlock – very good feature, considering dolphins have got style. Lol. I’ve lost the plot, but seriously, these dolphins mean super extra points, watch out for them J James
