Advantages: Upgrade your mech and it can be fun

Disadvantages: Awkward controls, can be frustrating

Armored Core 2 is an action game for the Playstation 2 developed by From Software.

The story takes place after the events of the first game, the world is in chaos struggling for resources and there are three companies fighting over the development of Mars, you are Raven an elite gun for hire and can choose to work for either of them and you actions could influence what happens on Mars and potentially end or save hundreds of lives! The story is nothing to special and didn't really click with me but I did enjoy the choices that the game allows you to make.

You can choose to undertake missions for the various factions which will put you into combat with various mechs and this is where you may get frustrated! Some of the enemies are so much more powerful than you that it seems impossible to defeat them! The controls don't exactly make it easy to manoeuvre yourself around either.

Thankfully once you get into the game you will be able to go to the Garage section of the game and really kit your mech out, choose what class of mech you want from light to heavyweight, add new weapons, make it faster, more powerful, upgrade its subsystems. It is a pretty deep mode and when you roll your mech out of the Garage it can be totally different to how it was when it went in! You can also design your very own emblem which you can display proudly!

Once out of the shop you will begin to have more fun with your new more powerful mech though they still feel a bit awkward to control however you set them up! It's just more fun when you don't die because you are hopelessly outmatched.

Graphics are decent for an early Playstation 2 game, the mechs look pretty good but environments are blocky and bland.

I am not the biggest fan of the giant robots that everyone in Japan seems to be mad about so perhaps that's why I didn't enjoy this game as much as some people! The computer can really feel unfair until you upgrade your mech significantly.

Summary: One for the Mech fans ..
