Advantages: great multiplayer, good singleplayer
Disadvantages: only average if your playstation can not go online.
Battlefield 2 modern combat sounds a bit like a sequel and in a way it is a sequel to the PC battlefield games, it is however totally unrelated to the battlefield 2 PC games except by setting and name.
The controls are easy enough to learn for both infantry, parachute and vehicles, there are no planes in this game but there are helicopters, jeeps and tanks some maps have civilian looking vehicles, so the drivers amongst us need not fear.
The single-player consists of a campaign set somewhere in eastern Europe where both Chinese and American troops are on inventing the invasion of the other, the missions generally switch between both these sides and the events are explained a bit in news broadcasts where it is told how the opposing army destroyed an innocent vessel carrying supplies while you just blew up that same vessel carrying tanks, while at first you might think it is the propaganda of both sides there is actually a darker secret which I wont spoil for you.
one thing that is unique to battlefield 2 modern combat is the hot swapping function, basically when playing a single player mission you see the symbol of the class above each friendly in sight, if you aim at that and press a button time freezes as the cam flies swiftly trough the air for you to take control of that friendly while the one you were just in becomes controlled by the AI, this is quite fun to do since you can swap pretty fast.
Besides the Single Player campaign you can do certain challenges in which you try to hit as much enemies as possible in the least amount of shots or try getting from location to location whit the least hot swaps.
Both the missions and the Challenges can earn you stars trough achievements which in turn make your rank go up which unlocks new and improved equipment for you to use.
The single player pales in comparison to the Multi player though as it is probably the best I have ever had in a battlefield game, The first time I attached a few sticky bombs to a car and blew up a tank was amazing (this is considered weak, low, and cowardly by some, I prefer the term smart.) so where the first times I sniped a helicopter pilot who was flying high above the battlefield, if you have multi player on your PlayStation 2 this is definitely a must have.
Summary: if you got a playstation 2 that can go online this is definatly worth looking into.
