Advantages: Storyline which is actually pretty good, switch between units

Disadvantages: Enemies come out of thin air, repeated levels

Battlefield 2 Modern Combat is a shooter for the Playstation 2 developed by EA games.

Battlefield 2 Modern Combat is the first of the Battlefield titles to contain a storyline and it does very well for a first attempt, you play as soliders working for both the US NATO forces and Chinese soldiers who are both going to war, the game shows you propaganda in the form of TV broadcasts from both sides and it is fun to see what they both think of eachother! The plot does have a twist where the true enemy is revealed and it is a satisfying conclusion.

The gameplay in the single player mode is actually very innovative and you have the ability to take control of any friendly unit on the battlefield, this way you get to experience combat from all different perspectives whether that's driving a tank or simply running around as a rifleman.

The single player game does have its flaws however as you will find enemy soldiers popping in out of nowhere and in addition you will pick up upon the fact that they use the same levels quite a few times over. The ability to swap units does somewhat make up for this as you are never in the same place or controlling the same kind of unit for too long which always keeps the action fast paced.

The multiplayer game is where you will spend your time after the single player is complete, here you can take part in matches where you can contest control points and capture them for your team picking from a variety of classes in the classic Battlefield style. The only problem here is that the games online community is alot smaller now and the getting on to the game servers seem to be problematic.

Graphics are reasonably good with detailed weapon models and many authentic looking vehicles to drive around, the maps are also pretty big which is impressive.

Battlefield Modern Combat is a good PS2 shooter and the single player mode is a welcome addition to the series.

Summary: A good shooter.
