Advantages: Great graphics, Fun and easy, Good multiplayer and replay!
Disadvantages: Short, Short , and oh yeah SHORT!
The first thing i thought when i seen 'The Bouncer' was 'WOW WOW and some more WOW'!! This game looked amazing when early screen shots were released, you could pick up tables and weapons. I thought great, the PS2 will have an excellent title there like! But it all went wrong, parts of the game was dropped (no weapons)! The game was getting patetic reviews in Japan, i thought 'Oh no' i don't think i will buy this game after all. So i rented and i can say its one of the funnest games on the PS2! I first though it was going to be utter crap when i heard the news of its poor reviews! But when i got it home from renting it i realised this was a fun game that had the greatest graphics i have ever seen in a video game in all my life! This game is just streets of rage in 3D and i mean 3D! The characters actually talk (oh yes speech, not endless text skipping)! Lets get down to the game then, first of all all you do in this game is fight (there are some bit with out fighting but not many)! You basically watch a movie sequence, pick which hard case of a bouncer you want to be and then kick some bad guy butt! This really is an enjoyable experience. Being squaresoft they just had to stick some part of the game which had a very RPG feel! When you fight you earn bouncer points, these are like experience points and can be exchanged for new moves and or powers ups to your characters power, defence or life! This allows for alot of replay value which is very much needed for this game! The game is very fun, but (grit yur teeth) is only about 1:30 - 2 hours long, now for £40 that really does stink. But this game is so fun, just because you kick butt bouncer style and you have to play the game through a couple of times so you can get each character up to there full potential! You see you can replay the game using a current file allowing you to play the game through with more experienced characters!! Performing moves within the gam
e is done by pressing a certain button with a certain force, each button does a different attack (high low or middle) and if you push those shiney analouge buttons harder then you will hit the bad guys harder! This can be quite tricky especially when attempting a combo and you hit the button to hard or to soft!! But still a nice touch, taking advantage of the analouge buttons! The enemies in the game are sometimes far to easy and sometimes far to hard, you find yourself getting smack constantyl in the shins by a R2D2 wanna be robot thingy, this can be annoying especially when you are running low on health and have loads of baddies to hurt!! Now you must think what else does this game have if its only 2 hours long, well there is a multi player mode! This entails you and your friends (or the computer if you are lonely or don't have a multi tap) entering a arena (some large and some very small) and kicking the s**t out of each other! This multi player mode works very well and adds to the game replay even more!! I personally think this game would be the best game in the world if it was longer and had weapons, other than that no complains! This is a very fun and accessable beat em up! If you like streets of rage and don't mind a short but sweet (oh so sweet) game then buy this!! This game is good, lets hope squaresoft do a sequel (maybe called The Bouncer 2 or Bob's magic adventures or what ever the hell they want to call it)! If they do make a sequal lets hope they do things a little bit better, if not then squaresoft will just have to stick to making the worlds best RPG's!

- 10/08/01 Nice re-write. Have I rated this twice as well? Anyway, now I know more about it, I think you've just talked me into getting a PS2!
Cheers,

- 20/05/01 Not all that much about what the game is about, but it makes no difference now that I know how bad it is. Thanks mate. |

- 29/03/01 Sorry, but you don't really explain what type of game this is or anything about the plot/characters/dialogue etc. It's a shame if it's as bad as you say as Square have come up with some of the best games available. Cheers, Jenny. |
