Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One (PS2) ... game, for the simple fact that so many new ones are released each year. Call of Duty 2: Big Red One should certainly be the last word on the current console formats though--which means something at least. Rather confusingly this has nothing to do with the subtitle-less Call of Duty 2 on PC and Xbox 360. Whereas that game has the usual mix of three different nationalities of soldier to control, Big Red One has you playing the same soldier throughout the whole game. You do get to do quite a bit of sight seeing though with missions in North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. The Big Red One of the title is the nickname of a famous American infantry division and by sticking with them throughout the whole game you do get a much better sense of camaraderie than previous Call of Duty games. Unfortunately it also means that the game seems perilously close to the already excellent Brothers in Arms, except without the strategy bits.

The game accurately captures the scale of a conflict and you will often have multiple friendly units on hand to help you out and of course no shortage of enemy soldiers to bring to justice. You can pick up any weapons you find from the battlefield which includes authentic weaponry of the era including a German MP40 submachine gun, the American BAR Rifle, The Thompson submachine gun, M1 Garand semi automatic rifle and more. Premium Review Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One (PS2): Join the Big Red One! (351 words)

Call of Duty 2 The Big Red One is a shooter for the Playstation 2 developed by Treyarch. The game puts you in the role of a soldier in the Big Red One squad which is different from most other Call of Duty titles which have you join multiple squads and see the action from many different perspectives. The storyline takes you from the beginning to the end of the USAs campaign in World War 2 covering the liberation of Africa and even taking you into Germany for the final assault. The storyline I didn't feel was that exciting but the cast of characters around you really make you feel like part of a squad. The game accurately captures the scale of a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Fantastic gameplay but far too short. (430 words)

Rating:

Call of Duty 2 is a well-developed but poorly thought out game. Sounds like a contradiction? Let me explain. The gameplay is really quite good. Set in battle in World War 2, you take control of one character as part of a team to perform certain missions from the war. Rather than being a blast everything you see game, you do have to plan ahead a little. You can carry a maximum of 2 weapons at a time and both have limited ammunition. More bullets are available from certain areas and can be taken from the dead, however if you shoot like crazy, you will soon end up with no useful weapon at all and you will end up as one of the dead too. Careful planning ...  Read the complete review

Multiplayer. Camera angles, animations, lack of checkpoints, voice acting.

2 playable characters, fun combat, good graphics style, comic book style story To many racing missions, not enough time with Venom.

Great gaming fun, an excellent mix of skateboarding and movies. Not for those who aren't a fan of the movies.

True to life hunting, choose your gun or crossbow, put on a scope, zoom in, take your shot! Slightly slow load times and sometimes a little hard to control.

Good gameplay, easy to learn controls and get into the game. Poor storyline, far too short.
