Cars (PS2)

This game came out just after the movie, and was available on a lot of platforms, but I have only played it on PS2, so this my review. What I like about this game is the fact that it is so similar to the film, and features everything in it, well almost everything. It includes all of our favourite characters, and for that reason I love this game. I have come to the conclusion that when this game was brought out, they were aiming it for young children, especially those that enjoyed the film, however saying this, I enjoyed the game so I think that it had a much bigger consumer group than that of what they were expecting. A nice, easy game for younger children. The usual racing around the dirt roads etc., Nothing elaborate in this game. My 8 year old son received this as a gift and found it a little under-stimulating, preferring the actual Nascar games etc., Although it is fun for younger children - around age 4 or 5, it doesn't seem to titilate children older than that. The characters are great and the graphics are wonderful, there is nothing wrong with the actual game or concept, it's just marketed to a slightly more sophisticated group where as it should be promoted to our "beginning" race game fans. As sure as night follows day you can bet that following the launch of an animated film a game will soon follow, in fact sometimes the game gets released first. The main difference here though is that this game is actually pretty good while previous spin offs have been pretty awful with Cars you actually get a game worth owning. The game makes use not only of the characters from the film but also the voices of the actors from te film which is a nice touch as the characters of the film are bought alive by this and you can sense the personality of each of the cars. Cars for the Playstation 2 is a racing adventure game based on the film by Pixtar and made by THQ, it was released in June 2006. The game takes place after the events of the film and you play as Lightning McQueen. The main story of the game is that you are trying to win the Piston Cup Championship at the Los Angeles International Speedway.
