Advantages: Fun character creation

Disadvantages: Repetitive and boring after a while

I was recommended this game while searching for two player, co-operative PS2 games (simply because I like playing with my boyfriend but am fairly new to gaming at all and if we play against each other then I immediately lose!). I'm not big fan of 'realistic' war games and like fantasy so this looked like a good choice. Luckily, I rented rather than bought it...

It all started well, I love getting to pick out a character, armour, etc, and assign abilities and strengths so I enjoyed creating the character at the start. I had never played with this type of screen before - where both characters are in the same screen, rather than split, and one cannot move off independently of the other. It took a bit of getting used to but I was soon really enjoying the game and loved the fact that there is a 'shop' to buy and upgrade equipment (I know - its a bit girly when I even like virtual shopping and my frequent 'outfit' changes were soon stopped, we'd never have got anywhere in the game otherwise!)

That was when I still thought there was 'anywhere' to go...

Unfortunately, this game which started out being a lot of fun soon got very repetitive. Kill some monsters, navigate a maze, pick some stuff up, kill some monsters, etc.

While the level/background changed it seemed that nothing else did and once I stopped being thrilled each time I could update my weapons and ability I did begin to wonder what was the point. There was just no variety in the game at all, no puzzles, no different methods of fighting to learn, nothing. Ok, as I went on my character could cast different spells, or shoot different arrows but really this was just a bigger and better way to score more points (and the monsters got relatively stronger as you did so there wasn't really a lot of difference in the actual play). I gave up out of boredom after a few more levels.

Maybe I missed the point, maybe its just not for me, but I will carry on looking for a fun, challenging two player game with a bit more to it than this one.

Summary: I'm hoping there are better games out there!
