It just goes to show how quickly fortunes can change in the fickle world of gaming. When Crash Bandicoot made his last platform-based appearance on the PlayStation format in 1998, the orange marsupial was near the top of the gaming world, as his third game (subtitled 'Warped!') became a hit both critically and commercially. However, following the decision of developers Naughty Dog to abandon the franchise they had created in order to focus on Jak & Daxter for the PS2 generation, Crash faced an uncertain future in the hands of Travellers Tales. The climate the Bandicoot returned to in 2001 with The Wrath Of Cortex was far more hostile than it had been four ... Read the complete review

Crash Bandicoot the Wrath of Cortex is the series first game on the Playstation 2, it is notably not developed by its creators Naughty Dog instead by Travellers Tales. The story is basically a rehashed version of previous titles, Dr Neo Cortex is at it again, this time he has created a new superweapon with the four elemental masks called Crunch Bandicoot! Our hero Crash Bandicoot must once again stop the evil deeds by destroying the elemental masks and bringing down Crunch Bandicoot and defeating his old rival Neo Cortex! Gameplay hasn't really changed to much from the previous instalments of the series, for the most part you will be controlling ... Read the complete review

Crash Bandicoot - The Wrath of Cortex [TWOC] is the sixth game featuring the orange marsupial in the hugely successful franchise. This review focuses on the PS2 release in Autumn 2001, though the following year also saw Crash venture onto the X Box and Game Cube for the first time. Chronologically TWOC is the fourth Crash Bandicoot instalment, following on from Crash Bandicoot 3 - Warped three years previously. Travelers Tales also took over from Naughty Dog as developers of the game which meant that with this fact and the upgrade to the PS2 that the Crash world was ... Read the complete review

Unlike my brother, I have never been a big fan of the Crash Bandicoot games. The reason for this is that I have been playing video games now for over 20 years and the Crash games in my opinion have always lack serious originality in the game play department and the storylines have been weak at best. The platform Crash games play like a second rate Donkey Kong Country, Crash Team Racing was a decent Mario Kart clone but still a clone nonetheless, and Crash Bash was a forgettable Mario Party-like game. Sure the simple and effective play mechanics of jumping and spinning have worked well for the Crash games over the years but I was expecting a bit more from this PS2 game. ...
