INTRO

Last week, Thanx to the downfall of Sega, I was able to walk in to my local game store and purchase this rather spiffing dreamcast sensation. All well your may think, however I do not have a dreamcast, I have a brand spanking new playstation 2.

You see, as Sega were not making enough money off selling their dreamcast, they have decided to concentrate on making software titles. Both for themselves and for other rival companies. I.e. Sony, and Nintendo.

WHATS IT ALL ABOUT?

Basically you drive a taxi around a huge environment picking up customers and taking them to their destinations. You earn money based on the distance your customer wishes to travel, and also if you get them excited whilst in the rear of your cab. For example playing chicken with a 20 tonner going 70 down the highway would get your passenger wetting themselves. This means, for some strange reason, that they enjoy the ride more and therefore top greater.

THE DRIVERS

There are four drivers each with their own cabs. They have different attitudes, and react differently in some situations. Also their cabs both look different and handle uniquely. The cabbies are as follows:

* AXEL- Your average 21 year old guy, with green hair to boot.
* GENA- 23 years old, and looks pretty fine.
* BD JOE- My personal favourite, has got the best handling wheels
* GUS- Mr.Cool, but his comments do get a “tad” annoying.

GAME MODES

* PLAY BY ARCADE RULES- Play the crazy taxi you would experience in the arcade, the best, simply lighting speed.

Or inside of arcade mode you can also just cruise around for a set time of either 3, 5, or 10 minutes.

* PLAY ORIGNAL MODE – Same as arcade, except a different city, slightly harder though.

* CRAZY BOX- A series of tasks you have to complete using various skills, you will have to u
se all your crazy tricks, more on them later. There’s is 9 of these tasks as standard and 7 more can be unlocked. If you complete them all you will unlock the crazy cycle. Warning very difficult to do!

CRAZY TRICKS
************

To progress in the game, i.e. get awesome rating on all of the modes. You must master all of the tricks. Below I have giving you a brief description of these:

* DASH- Speed boost, the most common trick used
* DRIFT- Power slide- essential for making those sharp U-turns at the end of highways.
* BACK DASH- Quick reverse- hard to do and not very useful to be honest
* BACK DRIFT- Makes the cab spin 180 degrees and face the opposite direction, looks very cool, if you can pull it off!

GRAPHICS

If you have seen crazy taxi on the dreamcast then you have seen the PS2 version, it is a straight conversion, then again this isn’t a bad thing. With PS2’s increased frame rate, it rolls along at a blistering pace. The ultimate eye candy experience for your PS2. Probably the best arcade game on the PS2 as of yet.

SOUND

With cool tunes from the likes off offspring saga have not scamped on the sound hear. The quality is also first class. The different cabbies’ accents are also superb. Whilst playing this game you will never have a moment of peace, write from the word go!

CONTROL

The default controls are very difficult to use, therefore I defined my own system. It now runs like a dream. Performing the basic manoeuvres s apiece of cake, but as with most games, mastering the advanced techniques will take you a while longer!

SUMMARY

If your looking for fast paced action packed gaming, then this is the one for you. With segas arcade platform graphics as the base, you cant fail to be entertained as you have a CRAZY time, ripping up the highways on your quest to become the best cabbie
ever!
