Advantages: Decent storyline, brilliant gunplay, slow motion, good melee attacks
Disadvantages: Not as good as Max Payne, graphics are poor
Dead to Rights is a shooter developed by Namco.
The games story puts you in the shoes of Jack Slate who is a member of the police force K9 squad, out on patrol one night he finds his own father murdered and has to hunt to find the killer and bring them to justice, there's just one twist in the game he is framed for the murder himself so has to take out the corrupt police officers and foes alike. The story is quite reminiscent of the Max Payne games only it is not told or developed as well.
The gameplay is fast and furious and a lot of fun, with a wide variety of weapons from pistols, shotguns, assault rifles and more at your disposal and there are liberal amounts of ammo so you can keep dishing out the pain. Shooting foes is made easy you automatically lock on to targets so a simple squeeze of the trigger is enough to dispense of your enemies.
Melee combat is also included and there is a fairly decent brawling system here, you can do a few punch and kick combo attacks, disarm enemies as well as take them as hostages and use them to soak up the bullets for you! As you are a member of the K9 squad you can call in your dog Shadow to attack which basically works as a free kill for you!
The game also uses an excellent slow motion ability so you can leap through the air in exciting Matrix style dodges while you take down enemies in style, you have to have adrenaline for this but as it regenerates itself and is topped up by killing foes you will find ample opportunities to use it.
Graphics are a little basic with some blocky looking environments and some bland textures but this is an early Playstation 2 title.
If you enjoy shooters you will enjoy Dead to rights, it is a great game.
Summary: A good shooter.
