Advantages: Great action, another playable charactor
Disadvantages: Lucia is a Dante clone, poor storyline, difficult
Devil may Cry 2 is an action game developed by Capcom for the Playstation 2.
The story follows Dante who has teamed up with a new character Lucia in a quest to destroy Arius, the villain in this game, who wants to collect all the Arcana artifacts to revive an ancient evil demon to dominate the world. The story is not one of the strong points of the game as it doesn't really develop the characters at all which makes you not really care about what is happening .
The action is what the game does best, it is fast paced and frantic combat against legions of demon armies though not much seems to have changed since the first devil may cry with barely any noticeable new moves or animations. You can use your guns and sword attacks to create really impressive looking combos and upgrade them over the course of the game by collecting red orbs.
You can play as the new character Lucia but her moveset is very similar to Dantes with the exception of she uses smaller blades instead of a sword. Disappointingly her sections of the game simply involve retreading Dantes adventure. The Devil Trigger mode makes a return with each character able to transform into a devil for a brief period of time, in Devil mode they have more power, regenerate health and can perform special moves and abilities, very cool indeed.
The barrier to entry of the series is still the difficulty the game offers, you will need to have very quick reflexes and a good eye to spot patterns in the enemies attack patterns especially during the boss battles as they can easily take down a lot of your health if they land a clean hit.
Graphics are reasonable quality especially with the large boss enemies that you will fight and the little voice acting that is there is decent enough.
Though the story is poor the core action of the game is still a strongpoint and is enjoyable if you can make it past the difficulty barrier.
Summary: A decent action title.
