This game goes for a classic role playing game feel and that is clearly evident in its battle system. Enemy encounters and turn based affairs are random and the viewpoint is truly old school. If you were playing roleplaying games during the NES and SNES days you will be familiar with the monster view that this game gives you. Though the game does show you your character attacking enemies in a more modern touch.

Dragon Quest VIII is a roleplaying game for the Playstation 2 developed by Square Enix. The storyline of Dragon Quest VIII is about an evil jester named Dhoulmagus has taken control of a magic sceptre and turns the King and Princess into a giant toad and a horse and leaves the rest of the palace guards as plants. You are a royal guard and somehow unaffected so the quest falls on your shoulders, the quest has you track down the evil Dhoulmagus and return the King and Princess to their former selves.
