The creators of the original Resident Evil for the PlayStation have made their first survival horror game for the PlayStation 2 with Extermination. While it is unlikely that Extermination will be remembered in the same regard as Capcom's game, it is a solid title that fans of the genre will enjoy and want to play. Like so many others in the genre, Extermination relies on a clichéd storyline told through CGI movies to get things started. As a part of an elite military Special Forces team, you and your group of thick-skinned commandos are to go into an installation where scientific experimentations have gone horrifically wrong and all contact has ... This game marks the debut of the survival-horror genre on the PS2 - and a good effort it is too. You play a typical Marine sent in to investigate a communications breakdown at a research center in the South Pole, unfortunately your plane crashes upon arrival and you get split from the rest of your team. Plot sound familiar? I was imediately thinking of the film 'Thing' but it also reminded me of the PSOne game 'Parasite Eve 2' (i'm not going to mention Resi Evil). So - break in, find your buddies, clean up the area, get the hell out- nothing new, but the game does prove to be pretty decent. Its a third person affair and the graphics are ... It isn't a psx game! This is the PS2!! With its graphical potentialities I have thought that all games would be exceptional, but only GT3 and Formula One 2001 use the power of PS2. This game have been made too quickly, probably because programmers don't want to compete with Metal Gear Solid 2 and the new Resident Evil, so several aspects could be improved. You are Dennis Riley, US Marine who has been sent to investigate in a base infested by disgusting creatures. You have to kill them end to solve some problems during the game. At the beginning it might look like an innovative game that uses real-time backgrounds but a closer inspection reveals that it ... Read the complete review

Capcom better watch out. This new survival horror game is really good. You and the rest of your squad are dropped in to a secret lab populated by a load of mutants, you have to find a way of destroying all the mutants and getting out of the lab. The control system is alot better than any other survival horror, instead of having to rotate you character you can just use the analouge stick to move him in the direction you want to go. The graphics could be improved slightly but they serve there purpose. The background look great as do the various gruesome monsters. As usual the voice acting is crap but the rest of the sound effects are ... Read the complete review

When I first played this game, I kept on thinking' come on...when is the action gonna kick in!!'But then when It does kick in, which is just at the right time after you have got used to the controls, you are then waiting for a bit of a breather. First time round you may well be thinking that all the action is weighted in favour of the 'baddies' but have another crack at it and those annoying little thing that keep trying to infect you are alot easier to avoid. Graphically the game isn't pushing the ps2 to it's limits but I did feel fairly impressed with the lighting and generally everything visual. The sound also is very good, makes ...
