EA sports are back again, with another mega packed game. This time in the form of an F1 racing sim. This game is competing directly with Sony?s own Formula One 2001 game, who comes in at pole position will be decided by us the consumer.

F1 2000 was sent back to the drawing board as it was simply rubbish therefore EA had to reinvent what is essentially a game that involves driving around at high speeds and admiring the boring scenery. This seems like a hard task especially if the concept sounds rather dull. F1
Has tried to do things differently. The most noticeable difference between 2000 and 2001 is the challenge mode. You have to complete the set of tracks in order to progress to the Grand Prix mode, (which is based on the current season). You then need to play further in order to unlock other options, like teammate mode.

Learning to control the vehicles is tricky, but you can soon become a pro after just a few hours play. Within the game you have access to such features as the tyre compounds and braking efficiency, which means you can set the standards to meet your ability. The novice option is available for those who wish to take the easy route through life. This option is much more forgiving and lets you taste the glory for a lower price.

On the graphic side of things, you will be hard pushed to find anything that looks any better than this. Sony?s version is perhaps just a tiny bit better polished. Here you can see far into the distance, where this was unachievable with the PSOne or N64. The weather effects in this game perhaps have not been seen anywhere else before. You may start a race under the bright sun; to later find that the clouds have turned grey with sparks of lightening illuminating.

There is the option of playing with up to three of your mates. Provided you have forked out for the £30 multi-tap. Playing with mates could prolong the life of this very short life-spanned game.

After playing with
this for a month I went down to the shops to trade it in and got £22 back from the original £45 I shelled out for this. This game does not have enough to keep non-F1 fans pleased for long.
