I'd say this game is a big improvement from the old fifas. It is more realistic in a lot of the ways. For instance you can now handball it and keepers sometimes drop shots. But there are a few problems. For instance speed is a problem. The better the player the faster he is which isn't true. For instance, on this game Emile Heskey is faster then Theo Walcott (Arsenal superstar). Another thing is graphics. The graphics are meant to be amazing. And they are amazing for the superstars or amazing players like Ronaldinho and Wayne Rooney. But in the lower leagues in England and all the other teams in foreign countries apart from the top teams the graphics are terrible. I mean Rory Fallon of Swindon has a lot of hair in real life but on this he is bald! After all it is just a game and in the end it is the gameplay that counts.
When this game came out, I thought that it was brilliant, but that wasnt until the 07 and 08 and 09, versions came out, which in comparision, this game is little league. But back then, it was the best football game around. When you play, you control every aspect of the game, from the players to the management of the team, in terms of game tatics. One brilliant thing that was introduced into this game which hadnt been seen before is the fact that when you score a goal, you can watch it in a replay as many times as you like, and from every angle possible, just like watching a real goal replay.
The graphics for this game were brilliant for the times, but not now, they are much more advanced. This game can be bought very cheaply, for only under £10, but when it came out the first time round, then it would have set you back a fortune, about £39.99, which is a stupid price to put of such a game. The FIFA brand has been around for around 10 years, and therefore, I think that this game just shows how the series has progressed. A brilliant thing. Definitely gets my recommendation.
A decent crowd and dodgy-looking players aside, there's a Champions League night feel to each match with Clive Tyldesley and Andy Gray providing commentary, with "Ashes" by Embrace a reminder of the MOTD Goal of the Month competition. However, the number of ways in which you can score is well limited, and whilst the passing is convincing FIFA 06 lacks a real football brain. The physics of the ball are flat and players fail to utilise space intelligently thus play fails to generate a sense of momentum despite the performance meter which was intended for this purpose. Tackling becomes dead tiresome, and as a sign of sloppiness, the goalkeeper can be seen to save the ball behind the line. Surprisingly, there's a lack of depth when it comes to setting up the formations. Unfortunately EA Sports seem to have put their efforts towards having plenty of rewards to unlock - but FIFA 06 is anything but rewarding.
fifa 06 well what can i say. if your after amazing graphics licensed teams and winning trophies this is the game to buy. fifa offers so much more than just football the extras and graphics of the game are just unbelievable, making you think you are actually the on the pitch playing.everything looks real the crowd aren't just a blur they cheer and wave flags and much more, try for yourself. the graphics obviously helps the gameplay, but this game has so much more than just graphics. The vast range of tricks and skills are breathtaking and the pace and speed of the play adjustable to make the perfect match. the licensed teams and players make playing tournaments and cup competitions better than any other game on the market.
you can't put, into words, how well this game is designed to suit the player you've got to see it to believe it!
Oh yes here it is ladies and gentlemen, coinciding with the start of my university year the new FIFA 2006!!
Called a national institution for over a decade by Amazon.co.uk this game is as important to British life as pie and chips or so theyd have you believe.
For those who dont know, this is a football game for the PS2. It is a one-two player game through many leagues such as Premiership, Championship, La Liga, Budesliga etc as well as a large number of International teams you can play out every Englishmans fantasy and win the world cup!
When playing the game you control the players, you have to make the tackles, passes, crosses and shooting etc
On top of actually playing the game you can manage a team for 15 years, do various tournaments etc in this you have to mange sponsorship, morale, formation and other tactical bits and bobs.
- Game play -
I found this version of Fifa a significant improvement on previous versions, the actual playability of the game is quite high I always take the stance that unless you actually enjoy playing a game it doesnt matter how realistic or pretty it is. The difficulty of the game varies from player to play i.e. I batter my dad but get beat by my 8 year old cousin. The controls of the game are pretty much the same as previous versions plus a few new moves (note you actually have to be good to pull most of them off).
There are several game modes:
Quickplay basically here you can play a quick 1 or 2 player game.
Manager Mode this is a vast 15 season campaign where you get to alter every aspect of your game, from new signings, sponsorship etc etc I could go on for days here. Throughout your career your manager rating goes up or down for example you could start managing Doncaster and end up getting AC Milan.
Fifa Lounge here you can have upto 8 friends in basically a custom league, as with all leagues the better you do the higher up the table. This is one of my favourite parts of Fifa as theres nothing better than having a league table that says you are the best.
Online play Id have thought this was self explanatory havent played on this mode yet so cannot comment on it.
- Authenticity/ Graphics -
The graphics on this game are really rather good, as expected an improvement on previous versions, authenticity is excellent as well as has 21 leagues and more than 10 000 world class players with some of the latest team selections etc. along with this there is a selection of clips from the previews of the premier league, Italian league etc.
The value for money of this game is superb from my point of view, currently retailing at £29.99 in Amazon Ive had a huge amount of gameplay out of this. However it does have a side effect Ive noticed a disturbing lack of progress work wise due to me playing on this.
Fifa 2006 is a fun football gaming experience. The match engines which have been produced are to the highest standards and the new manager mode is also a very good feature that has been introduced. Of course an advantage to the game is that it is up to date. The new kits that have been produced are extremely good and also the players features. The match engine also makes the game come alive with the graphics also helping out.
Obviously, as you know there is a long standing "battle" between these two games, of which there have been many an argument in the playground or between fans at games. I myself, having played both, was more impressed with FIFA than PES. This maybe because of the authentification of players, teams etc, but the gameplay itself seems to handle more.
PES , yes it's a good game but the hype around it is too far overexaggerated, the graphics are good and it is playable but it doesn't have that cutting edge that FIFA has.
Both have "button backlog" so to speak but this is because of the first-time systems that both of them try to replicate, however on FIFA 2006 when this occurs, it makes the game more fun, as a challenge to get the ball back, shots go wayward, and it is harder to tackle especially when playing on world class. I admit this is a fault but tackling and winning the ball back is far easier on PES than on FIFA making it more of a challenge for the player.
Amongst otherthings i would have to say that if you are after the better game go for FIFA 06.
Fifa 06 is a game for football and PS2 fans alike made by EA Sports. It doesn't require a great deal of knowledge about the sport but you are more likely to enjoy the game if you are interested in football. Fifa 06 is a game where you can command the moves of your players, manage the teams and customise your teams. The game is much more than a game of football, involving managerial skills such as signing sponsors, buying players and boosting team morale.
Playing the Game
If you have played any previous versions of Fifa, you will find the controls and the game itself quite similar. However, even if you have not played the game before, a little practise will soon have you mastering the controls. Use the controls to make decisions, for controlling player skills including dribbling, tackling and shooting as well as choosing kit for your team and naming players.
Level of Difficulty
The game is rated 3+ which means it is suitable for anyone over the age of 3. It is unlikely that a child of 3 would have any idea how to play this game but it is really manageable for age 8 and above if they are experienced PS2 users.
1. Gameplay. Use skills of attack, dribbling, shooting and general skills to play football.
2.Manager Mode. This allows you to choose your team and manage them over 15 years. You can control budgets for the club, search the transfer market and decide on tactical formations.
3. Fifa Lounge. This is where you can set up matches to play against your mates (up to 8 players). High ranked players gain an advantage in subsequent matches.
4. Customise It. This allows you to completely customise your teams and players to make your own Football World. You can make yourself into a famous footballer, wearing the kit of your choice and take the game further by using My Fifa and Team Management to suit your preferred playing style and you can put any player on any team of your choice. Make Rooney play for Birmingham City!!.
5. Online Play. You can play online with up to 2 other players to see how your skills compare with others around the world.
Fifa 06 has 21 leagues and more than 10 000 world class players. The latest football statistics from 2005/06 are used so the teams in the Premiere Division for example are the current ones. There is also a large selection of clips of golden moments of football throughout the ages including classic Beckham, Ronaldinho and Cantona goals. The commentary is exceptionally realistic as is the football kit (including boots).
The quality of the graphics are amazing, you could easily mistake it for a real match! Well if you've had a drink or two first...!
Value for Money
This game retails for around £30 -£35. I consider it to be very good value for money as there are many different game modes. It is not a game where you complete a series of levels and then the game is completed (or becomes boring).
To be recommened?
For any football / gaming fan this is sure to be a very big hit. If buying for your kids, BEWARE! They will not come for dinner when you call them!
I loaded up FIFA 2006 with excitement. Having played 2005 to death I was looking forward to a new challenge - Hull City in the Coca Cola Championship - with of course the new lineup and kits. From that respect, I wasn't disappointed but then - that is the selling point of FIFA.
The gameplay is different to previous versions - at first it does seem more difficult and posts on the official EA forums bear this out. And that's a good thing. No longer can your team's powerhouse barge his way straight down the centre of the pitch and blast the 20th shot past the poor beleaguered keeper. No - a little more attention to gameplay is required.
Goals in Fifa 2006 come more from constructed attack - a team high on morale works well together to move into positions for that crossed ball. A struggling team will not be so well organised and the player may well despair as a cross worthy of Beckham's own boot sails into open space, or onto the chest of a defender who will launch a swift counter - and that is the key to this game - keeping your team happy and making use of the "team chemistry" feature of this season's serving of officially endorsed football.
Like previous FIFA games however, once your playing style comes together, it becomes all too easy for the Southend United fan to have Jose Mourinho quaking as Roman Abramovich demands to know how his Chelsea team crumbled before such lowly opposition in a cup final they should have walked through. And suddenly you are the special one.
But that is the appeal of this game too. EA know as well as you or I that what we really want to see is our own team at the top of the Premiership, lifting every cup on offer and storming Europe.
Non-football fans won't see the appeal of a facelifted version of an older game - but non-football fans are not the target market. Purer gamers may prefer other football titles with less emphasis on official authenticity. But does it have to be one or the other?
The slogan "you are Ronaldinho, you are Wayne Rooney"? Maybe so but I doubt Everton fans will want to be Wayne Rooney. The appeal is more along the lines of "You are your whole club, and you can make it to the top. Even if Sincil bank is your home ground!
Roll on the next season and the next coat of paint over the top of the same formula!
