With Gradius III & IV, the old side scroller proves it still has a trick or two up its well played sleeve. ********** When I first picked up my controller to play Gradius III & IV, I was immediately transported back to younger days. My friends and I would spend hours dropping coins in the video game machines scattered around the local fun houses. Of course, in those days, the arcade was the only place to play any real games. Our home PCs had no chance to compete, because they had no real power to display the ships that screamed through space, the frogs that jumped dangerous waters and the other various challenges that, to our young minds, were state of ... Konami's Gradius series has always been a popular favorite with the 2D shoot'em up crowd, at the arcades and on home systems. Konami has brought the classic series back into the homes once again, but instead of making a completely new Gradius title we get two arcade conversions. Gradius III from way back in 1990, and the more recent Gradius IV which appeared in the arcades in 1999. Is there still life left in the old dog? Let's take a look... The only reason this game was made was so there would be extra titles on the shelf during the holidays when all the good stuff is sold out. The producers are banking on unsuspecting parents buying this for their kids 'cause they have to buy something. If there was ... Read the complete review

Gradius III & IV is a collection of 2 classic games on one CD, and while it doesn't show much of the graphical power your shiney new Playstation 2 is capable of, it's still the systems best game out so far. Both versions are perfect replicas of their arcade counterparts. Gradius III saw release in the US on the Super Nintendo back in the early 90s, but up until now, Gradius IV, which came out in late 98 in japanese arcades, has never seen the light of day in the US market. Gradius III is old-school all the way. Fans of the original arcade version of the game will be glad to know that the version found on Gradius III & IV is a perfect arcade port, right ...
