Advantages: Dameplay, setting, missions, characters, fun
Disadvantages: Nonem maybe for some the map is too big
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for me is the best game on the PS2, and the best game I have played on a console, so much so that I bought it again just a month back so that I could play it again, 3 years after selling my ps2 after my partner had bought her console around to my house. The story is brilliant, the lead character is brilliant although I do think the makers of the game tried to force the stereotypical black gangster on us, although I guess that's one of the jokey bits about this game.
The game is absolutely superb, one thing I love particularly is the map, it's so varied and so big that you can get lost in it, you have to keep checking the map to make sure your destination wasn't across the ocean before you make a mistake of driving straight over a cliff into the sea and having to swim for half an hour before you reach land. I love that you can visit the casino's and speed down the strip before heading left into the desert and past the restricted area into your air base before flying over to the mountain, parachuting off and getting a bike across country to your home town.
The map gave a sense of achievement and moved the game on, as you went through the missions you gradually got more and more map opened up and available to visit, this gives the player something to aim for, instalments such as the most recent don't have that sense of getting somewhere with the game.
The characters in the game I think are brilliant to, CJ and his mates were hilarious with the over exaggerated 'black gangster' speak, Cesar is one of the best characters in GTA, the returns of Ken and Claudia are brilliant, and lets not forger the silent protagonist of GTA3, Woozie, Toreno, The Truth and Zero (although I HATED his missions) were all worth GTA chracters.
The missions were varied enough so that they didn't get mundane, as soon as you started getting bored shooting people you were told to go and steal a jet pack, once you got bored with flying places you were told to go and rob a bank, brilliant varied missions all of which take place in different cities in the game, I particularly liked the mission going back to Liberty City.
Another thing, the radio stations, they are superb, especially the country station of K-Rose which has me singing songs to this day, so much so that I was tempted to purchase the boxset of radio stations available to buy, another very clever and unique thing was that the news reports followed on from previous missions which just adds so much to the game, such as the news reports of destroying the field of weed and OG Loc on the radio later on in the game.
Overall, this is the best GTA in the series and a hundred times better than what they did with GTA4 which was a horrible game for me, the 2 player was a bit poorly done for me but it was never meant as a 2 player game, the best GTA game.
Summary: True brilliant classic
