Advantages: Great songs for an 80's fan like me

Disadvantages: Comes across as Guitar Hero " Lite"

After having spent HOURS on the awesome Guitar Hero 3 : Legends of Rock, my wife bought me Guitar Hero : Rocks the 80's for christmas as quite frankly I love the 80's and everything about it ( I grew up in the 80's after all ) so this seemed a perfect fit.

After loading it up you can see a difference between this and legends of rock, which after researching it is because this actually was developed by Harmonix who developed the first two games before moving on to develop Rockband, whereas Legends of Rock was developed by Neversoft.

One of the first thing you notice is the game doesn't have as much of a complete game feel compared to Legends of Rock, and really feels more like an expansion pack and offers nothing new from Guitar Hero 2, also disappointing is that there are no Bonus tracks on offer as there are with previous and subsequent Guitar Hero games and that also gives this an incomplete feel rather than a fully fledged installment of the series and feels like its just Harmonix's contractual obligation that made this game possible and no real development time was spent on it.

My main problem with the game is the very limited setlist, 30 songs really isnt' that much when you consider how much the game actually is and how many songs you get in something like Legends of Rock, but being a Massive 80's fan it is still nice to Jam along to such 80's "classics" as "Heat of the Moment" by Asia, and "I Ran" by Flock of seagulls, although it is disappointing that only 5 of the 30 songs are originals although unlike in Legends of Rock where the majority of the 73 songs are the originals.

Overall its a Guitar Hero game and as such is still lots of fun, but it does come across as Guitar Hero "Lite" and a bit of a Cash in, but that doesn't stop me from applying the face paint, rolling up my jacket sleeves and "rocking the 80's !!

Summary: A bit of a cheap cash in, something you may want to pick up cheap, don't pay full price

Interesting to know that it's developed by a different company to GH3.
