Jak 3 (PS2)

Description: Manufacturer: Sony / Genre: Action / In these days of endless sequel after sequel it's quite a surprise to find out ... more
Jak 3 (PS2) ... that a successful series like Jak & Daxter is coming to an end of its publisher's own volition. But--although the characters may well appear again in some other form--Jak IIImarks the end of the epic storyline that is now over three years in the making. The first Jak & Daxter game was a fairly straightforward Rare-esque platformer, but the second game expanded the concept considerably to become a sort of cartoon style Grand Theft Auto. This third game removes some of the more unnecessary diversions of Jak II to become a more enjoyably focused action adventure. The actual story follows on directly and sees Jak and Daxter banished to the Wastelands--a massive game world more than five times the size of Haven City from the last game. Although they are less prevalent than last time there are a dozen different vehicles to pilot and plenty of upgradeable weapons. Perhaps the most important new gameplay feature though is Jak's new light eco form, to balance out the dark eco powers from Jak II. In light eco form Jak grows a pair of angelic wings and gains the power to regain lost health and even freeze enemies in time (and yes, it does work a bit like bullet time).

Jak can still turn into Dark Jak but later in the game he is enlightened by some monks and can become Light Jak who instead of focussing on destroying everything is more about healing and defense, light Jak can use a healing ability, a shield to protect himself and even use his angelic wings to take flight for a few seconds. Premium Review Jak 3 (PS2): Jak 3-Magnificent (2440 words)

Let me fill you in on the story of this epic adventure. Feel free to skip it if you already know it, but, with the end of the trilogy to this exxcellent series of games, i feel that a little look back ir required. After all, the epic story is one of the reasons why the tale is so good. In Jak 1, he and Daxter, despite being warned by their 'friend' samos the green sage, dad to Kiera-who Jak and Daxter love-they sneak onto an island and get binto trouble. Daxter falls into dark eco, a bad substance that has caused his transformation into an ottsel (otter-weasel). Whilst trying to find the right people to help out though, he soon discovers a plot to use the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Jak is Back, again! (327 words)

Rating:

Jak 3 is an action game developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the Playstation 2. Jak and Daxter have been chucked out from Haven city and left to survive in the desert, you will do some missions for the people that rescue you but inevitably you will end up back in Haven city to liberate it from the clutches of Count Verger. The game also introduces the precursors to the series and you will learn many secrets and figure out more about the characters in this game which is satisfying. The story is well told with some light hearted moments from Daxter punctuating the more mature story line. The gameplay has made a leap but is not as significant as ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Jak 3 (PS2): A cheap, easy and fun game to play. (328 words)

~This is game is really great! I love playing all the Jak and Daxter games, I have played and completed every single one. I recommend you play the first two games, otherwise it wouldn't make sense. I loved the jokes about the real precursor dudes. I won't give away the funny bit because you can find that out for yourself, but it is a real good game for your PS2. ~The graphics are really good on a PS2 which makes it a much better game. It is full of colour which is very appealing and it has a great front and back cover. ~The only trouble is that I am a girl and I found it to easy so boys might find it a bit boring. I like action games but I never ...  Read the complete review
