007-EVERYTHING OR NOTHING PLAYSTATION 2 GAME REVIEW.
RELEASED IN 2004 BY EA GAMES.
Now i am not much of a gamer, i have a playstation 2 which i have had for 5 years which i mainly bought to play fifa and grand turismo on and have never really bought any other games for it as i find it rather costly to pay £30 for a computer game. However when out shopping i popped into 'Game' to have a look at some DS games for my son and noticed the PS2 section and thought i would have a quick browse.
I was very suprised to see that most games you can now get for under a fiver, this is of course since the release of the Playstation 3 which i have no desire to get as the ps2 graphics etc are quite sufficient for a novice gamer like myself and for £300 plus for a PS3, i will quite happily stick to it's predocessor for now. Anyway one of the games that caught my eye was '007 Everything or Nothing', obviously a James Bond game, i am not the biggest Bond fan and thought previous Bond games i had played were fairly mediochre but at the price of just £2.50 i thought i would give it a go.
This was £2.50 very well spent, the game is superb. I was pleasantly suprised to see that this Bond game was a third person shooter as the other ones i had played were all first person shooters. (For anyone who doesn't know what this means, a first person shooter is when you don't see the character you are playing, you just see in front of you as if you have a camera on your head, a third person shooter is where the character your controlling is fully visible from head to toe).
As soon as the title page comes up you get the feel of watching a Bond movie and the game has its very own theme song performed by R&B artist 'Mya'.
All the voices in the game are actually voiced by the Bond actors themselves,
Pierce Brosnan voices 'Bond'
Judi Dench voices 'M'
John Cleese as 'Q'
Willem Dafoe as ' Nikolai Diavolo'
Shannon Elizibeth as 'Serena St Germaine'
Heidi Klum as 'Katya Nadanova'.
The graphics are also really good in this game and the likeness of the characters is superb.
The game itself has 29 missions and 4 unlockable bonus missions.
The game is set in different locations including Peru, Moscow and New Orleans and includes interludes from the M16 HQ in scotland.
THE STORY BEHIND THE GAME:
Dr Katya Nadanova is kidnapped by terrorists who want to steal her Nanobot invention. Bond is sent to rescue her and does so in typical Bond style, Killing the bad guys, using gadgets, chasing trains in sports cars and flying helicopters. Bond Rescues Nadanova and leaves her at a military base, little does he know that she is working with Nikolai Diavolo who intends to rework the Nanobot technology so that they eat through any metal accept Platinum.
Bond is then sent to peru to find and rescue agent 003 who has been kidnapped while investigating some platinum mines, when Bond finds him he is too late and in his dying breath 003 reveals a Diavolo's plot to use the Nanobots to destroy the New Orleans levees and flood the enitre city. Bond travels to New Orleans to try to find Diavolo's warehouse where the Nanobots are being kept and to try to destroy them but a truck load have already left and are heading to the levees, Bond has to chase the truck on his motorcycle and destroy it before its too late.
Bond then travels back to Peru to try and find out more information and to investigate the Platinum mines himself, but what will he find!!!
GAMEPLAY:
I found the gameplay very smooth and fluid. Its very easy to control Bond and scroll through the various weapons and gadgets. The graphics and sound design really are top class for the PS2. The background scenes are very well designed at look very real.
THE GADGETS:
The gadgets on this Bond game are great and loads of fun, these include:
SPIDER BOMBS- Little mechanical spiders that can go where Bond can't and can be detonated near anything or anyone.
RAPPEL- A gun which fires a line and hook onto any ledge enabling Bond to walk up and down walls, buildings etc.
EMP- A small explosive device that when detonated knocks out all electrical equipment in its blast range and does not harm people.
COIN STROBE BOMB- A small explosive device disguised as a coin that temporarily blind enemies.
SLEEPER DART GUN- This fires darts which will stun enemies unconcious for a few hours.
TAPPING GUN- A device that will let you gain control of any computer controlled device being used against you.
NANO SUIT- A suit which makes Bond temporarily invisible
THE VEHICLES:
The vehicles used in this game are great fun, you can fly a helicopter, drive a limousine, drive a rally car in a proper rally race and drive platinum tanks through the streets of moscow. Then there are Bonds usual high spec vehicles:
Porsche Cayenne with Nano invisibility, rockets and machine guns.
Chimera Motorcycle equipped with rockets and machine guns.
Aston Martin V12 Vanquish equipped with rockets and machine guns.
MY VIEW OF THE GAME:
This game really is superb and i found once i had started i couldn't stop playing it, it was so addictive. The very first mission you play is very simple and just to get you use to using the guns.
The next level is training to use all the gadgets, guns and getting used to moving Bond around.
From then on the missions start and they really are great fun, one of my favourite missions is the one in peru where you have to ride the Chimera Motorcycle over rooftops and through houses to get to the platinum mines while firing rockets and guns at the enemy.
There are 3 difficulty levels- Operative which is easy, Agent which is Standard and 00 Agent which is hard. I played it at the standard level and it took about a week to complete it, that's playing an average of 3-4 hours a day.
The gameplay is great and the missions really hold your intrest, the game has everything, its like a mix of a shooter game and a driving game accept a driving game that let's you fly helicopters and drive tanks and ride motorcycles (similar to GTA i suppose but without the freedom), there is loads of great gadgets to use and the range of weapons is great. The combat mode is very good when in one on one fighting situations.
You have the chance to save the game after each level you have completed.
You are also rated after each level you complete. You are rated on the amount of enemies killed, your accuarcy etc and are awarded either bronze, silver or gold agent status.
There is also a multi-player mode but i have yet to try this.
All in all this is a fantastic game which has everything and at a bargain price it is certainly worth purchasing.
GAME AVAILABLE AT AMAZON UK FROM £2.20.
Summary: THE BEST BOND GAME YET!!
