GTA on a Tropical Island! (Just Cause (PS2))

Just Cause is an action game for the Playstation 2 developed by Eidos.

The storyline in Just Cause is pretty simple you are CIA agent Rico Rodriguez sent to San Esperito island which has been taken over by the evil dictator Salvador Mendoza and along the way you will team up with the various other factions on the island who want Mendoza gone too. Though it is a rather basic storyline it does give you a very good excuse to go on a number of very explosive missions!

The game allows you free roaming access to the whole of the San Esperito island which is very large and there is a wide variety of ways to get around, you can "borrow" one of the many citizens cars and drive around, find a helicopter and fly around the island, head down to the beach and find yourself a boat. All the vehicles control really well making it an easy task to get around, I would describe the driving style as very arcade like as it is easy to perform lots of car stunts.

Speaking of stunts Rico is well equipped for you to perform many of them, in any car you can leap on to the roof with a touch of a button and then deploy your parachute to fly around the island, you also get a grapple which you can use to latch on to helicopters to hijack them or you can just parasail around the island after you attach it to the back of someones car!

Rico himself is a tough guy and will walk around with his duel pistols which he uses to dispense justice against his enemies, the gunplay is really satisfying as foes really react when bullets are pumped into them, dramatically falling back. The missions usually just involve driving and shooting from point A to B but with the unique stunts and satisfying gunplay it never really gets old.

Graphics are good for the Playstation 2 with really nice looking environments and well animated characters. Voice over is slightly cheesy but tolerable.

Just Cause is a fun action title with a few unique tricks up its sleeve to keep it interesting, you should try it!
