Kill Zone (PS2)

I like playing games on the PS2 and in particular I often like playing first-person style games. Killzone by (the aptly named) Guerrilla is a first-person shooter or FPS for short, and after enjoying other such FPS games like the 'Medal of Honor' series I was looking forward to playing Killzone. I say 'looking forward' but it was really by chance I got to play this game. Originally my son borrowed it from a friend but because he had played it so much the disc was quite badly scratched and often failed to load. Honestly, if I was given a tenner for every time I heard a new first-person shoot ‘em up claiming to be the ‘best game ever’ then I’d be quite hideously rich – Doom and Doom 3, Quake II, Goldeneye, Unreal, Half-Life and Half-Life 2, Halo… The list just goes on and on. Sony wisely didn’t market Killzone with this exact claim, though somewhat unwisely ignited considerable ‘debate’ by stating that it was going to be better than Microsoft’s prized FPS Halo. With the recent release of the excellent Killzone 2, I felt it apt to revisit this shooter on the PS2. It was hugely hyped upon release as the game that would dethrone Halo 2 as the King of the console FPS. It's fair to say that Killzone was a definite disappointment upon release, but it's still a fun enough shooter that's more of a rental than a game worth buying, in my opinion. Killzone was one of those games that I'd seen in the pre-owned section of the local games stores again and again. It wasn't until my brother said I should give it a shot and brought it for me that I finally sat down and played it. I was surprised that I hadn't given it a thought before. Given the age of the PS2, the graphics were great, very atmospheric. The story was superb (a kind of Battlestar Galactic tale of humanity's outcasts coming back to wreak vengeance) with some great voice acting from some pretty big names (including Brian Cox and Sean Pertwee). Wow, Killzone the game all PS2 gamers want to get there hands on. The so called Halo ( Halo being the so called best game on Xbox ) beater for the PlayStation 2 console. It does live up to its name and just about the name that is Halo. You start the game with ISA Special ( ISA is the ingame milatary group ) Forces Captain Jan Templar who is an an all rounder, a veteran marine soldier.
