Advantages: Good puzzle game

Disadvantages: Not a lot of replay value

I have always had fond memories of Lemmings from my early game playing days trying to get those loveable lines of little guys across a range of obstacles and having to occasionally sacrifice one for the greater good as they exploded like a little suicide bomber to break through a barrier. So I was quite pleased to hear that I could now get an updated version for my PS2.

The objective of the game has not changed, your task is to get the lemmings from the starting point to the end point, this must be achieved without losing more than a certain percentage of the little guys and you can assign different qualities to your Lemmings as you play along to enable them to climb, dig or parachute to safety.

Some of the same problems still exist with this game, mainly the fact that when you have a number of tightly grouped lemmings on the screen it is sometimes difficult to identify which one you are allocating a particular ability to and this is quite annoying when you cannot tell which direction they are moving in.

Basically this is a fun puzzle game to play and has a decent amount of challenge to it. Visually it is really good with a great deal of variety to the levels which will find you in some pretty strange worlds.

The only thing I would say is that maybe nostalgia has heightened its original charms as after a while I did become a little bored with it and certainly it did not have a great deal of replay value once you had mastered a level.

In hindsight renting rather than purchasing might have been a better decision.

Summary: Bit of nostalgia.

I'll probably get this when it goes cheap as I loved Lemmings when I was younger and haven't played it in any form for ages :) tom
