Advantages: Fun, Looks good, Almost everything
Disadvantages: none
Medal of Honor Frontline, developed by EA games is the fourth game of the popular MOH series, after MOH Allied Assault for the PC. Personally, MOH Frontline is my favorite game on the PS2, and one of my all time favorite videogames. I have to admit that I'm a sucker for army games, and any game that has to do with historic warfare and will be right there. MOH Frontline is the most fun that I have had in a console game since Goldeneye for the N64. I just finished this game, so now I will give you my review. Story: The story of this game is awesome, and flows right along side historic fact. You play the role of Jimmy Paterson, as he is sent on a special mission to disrupt Germany's special top secret project. That project involves a top-secret fighter/bomber that can change the tide of the war. Paterson must make sure that the Nazis never finish the project. Every time you finish a mission, you will be treated with a black and white slide show of WW2 history. Gameplay and Layout: Frontline offers six missions divided into about 19 huge levels, with a total of about 10 hours gameplay. Each mission and level is totally unique, and seems to run on it's own engine. There is such diversity between the different levels, and how they are played. You start in Dday, on the shores of Normandy in a scene straight from Saving Private Ryan. Like the movie, You and a bunch of Marines are in the ocean on an amphibious landing boat watching shells hit the water around you, as two German planes vaporize the boat and crew beside your own boat. A shell hits your boat, and you and the crew are thrown in the water as bullets kill Marines under water, even before they can bob their heads up. As soon as you come out of the water, you are greeted to a scene straight out of hell, as explosions and heavy caliber shells tear up everything around y
ou. Marines drop every where, and fly through the air. The scene is intense, and is very impressive. If you have seen the beginning of Saving Private Ryan, than you know exactly how intense the Dday level is in this game. The Germans are really dug in, in this level, as they are raining hellfire from their machine gun nests and artillery. After taking out the mounted machine guns, Paterson gets promoted to a special operation. Remember, The Dday mission is totally different from the rest of the game's levels. Most of the levels involve gameplay somewhat similar to Goldeneye for the N64. Mission objectives for this game feature sneaking aboard a Nazi U-boat and sabotaging it, destroying U-boat production at a German Naval base, taking on a Panzer tank squad, brutal house to house warfare in Holland, and Boarding a Nazi armored train. You will be up against many diverse Nazi units. You will start off fighting the Wehrmacht, which is your typical German soldier, the Gestapo, a type of military police, the Krieg dockguard and other Naval units, the Luft squad, which protect the airbase, the SS Nico and SS Scuhtzen, the elite guard, and various types of Nazi officers. There are many other characters, like doctors, mechanics, dockworkers, and cooks. Everybody and I mean everybody will fight you tooth and nail. From the German solider to the cook, they will all try to kill you. In fact, those fat cooks that throw knives at you are tougher than your average solider. If you get to close, your enemies will punch you in the face. If you want to pass this game than you will have to shoot and crawl through a diverse and well-equipped Nazi arsenal. You will be up against a tough enemy army with many tools at their disposal. By the time you finish the game, you will have gone toe to toe with the German Army, SS, Navy, Airforce, and finally one of Hitlars most trusted henchman. Graphics: This truly is one o
f the most beautiful games on the PS2. The explosions and artillery fire on the Dday level look tremendous. Now I know what Sony meant by calling their graphics card the emotion engine. The ground shakes with every explosion, and the whole scene is so intense. The Dday level is not the only impressive level. Each level seems to run on it's own engine and is very diverse. The Holland level is gorgeous, with authentic structures, and bombed out buildings. One of my favorite levels is called Derailed, which takes place in a German city and train yard. The place looks so real. The game is one of the most detailed that I have ever seen. The Nazi uniforms are straight out of the pages of history and are very diverse. You can even spot the camo smeared all over their faces in the field. There is so much detail in this game that it seems everything is accounted for. The character models themselves are very impressive, sport high polygon counts and there are many different variations. The environments are some of the most realistic and impressive in a video game. Every so often you will see things like, airplanes flying overhead dropping a bomb, and other impressive features. The graphics are easily better in this game, than in Metal Gear Solid 2. Sound: Easily, some of the best sound ever in a videogame. The sound compliments the graphics perfectly. Everything in this game sounds so real, and immerses you in the game. The voice acting is top notch, the music is professional, and the Nazis actually speak in German. I have never played a console game that sounded better than this. Control: This is where things get a little tough. You will find that aiming your weapon is a little harder than it should be, while the Nazis never miss twice. But overall it's not that big of a deal, and it shouldn't hurt your progress in the game. I also wanted to mention that the jolt pack performs the most impressive in this game. When something ex
plodes you will feel the ground shaking, or you will feel the vibration of your weapons. The most impressive use of the jolt pack. Conclusion: This is a far better game than Metal Gear Solid 2, with better graphics, sound and story. On the PS2, this game has almost no equal, except for Grand Theft Auto 3. They did everything right in this game, and it is almost perfect. It is obvious that the developers put allot of time and effort into making a good game and deserve our gratitude. Did you know that the developers actually traveled to these different countries in Europe in order to get it right in the game? If you are like me, and like army stuff, then you will love this game.
