The major cities depicted in the game, such as New York and London, aren't exactly represented here with accuracy, but they get the general idea across, and they most importantly nail the hustle and bustle quite well. From an audio perspective, it's also pretty good - some of the voice acting is admittedly a bit hokey, but then so is true of most video games, let alone those that have such a wafer-thin plot as this! Often, though, they're poorly acted enough to generate a good lau...more

Premium Review Midnight Club (PS2): Decent if unremarkable (338 words)
by - written on 12/09/09 (Very useful, 1 readings)
Rating:

In a lot of respects, Midnight Club was wiped off of the map before its release thanks to the release of another racer that was a critical darling - Smuggler's Run. Nevertheless, this is a solid, if somewhat underwhelming game considering that, upon release, it was touted as one of the PS2's early "killer apps". For its time though, it did boast some killer visuals - the vehicular models are very well rendered, and the lighting in particular is impressive as the cruise around the midnight streets and light from lamp posts reflects from your vehicle. The major cities depicted in the game, such as New York and London, aren't exactly represented here ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review You Think You're Gona' Beat Me In That? (1167 words)

Well, actually, yes I do! Midnight Club: Street Racing is full of such typically American phrases. Hardly surprising seeing as that is were it was made, by Rockstar, Take2, and Angel. The basic idea of the game is to drive and race around the city streets of New York and London, beating other racers to become the champion of the Midnight Club, a group of drivers who race every night. There are, of course, several different game modes, each with their own set of rules and goals. The simplest, and the mode most people will use the first time they play, is the 'Cruise' mode, where you get to pick a car, a city, and then drive around the streets at your ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Midnight Club (PS2): Wanna Race? (545 words)
by - written on 13/05/01 (Very useful, 62 readings)
Rating:

Racing games on the Playstation 2 have had a lot of hype since November 24th when the ‘super’ console was released. However, many of these games that were due for release on the 24th have been put months ahead. Such games include what was to be called Gran Turismo 2000 which had to change its name (because of continuous development of the game) to Gran Turismo 3: A Spec. The game is still not out yet, supposedly it’ll be released sometime in June/July. Before I stary too far away from the subject, I’d better get back to the game that is; Midnight Club. Anyone who has played the game may notice that the game is very similar to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Midnight Club (334 words)

Rating:

Midnight Club is a racing game developed by Rockstar games forthe Playstation 2. The game has a basic storyline which has you start out as a cab driver in New York, one night you are challenged to a race and win and are introduced to the world of Midnight Club street racing. It is a really basic plot and won't really engage you at all, it's really just there for the sake of adding a little bit of depth and some motivation to complete the game. In the campaign you can choose to take part in events by driving up to your opponents and then challenging them to race you, the races are usually point to point events and you can choose your own route ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Midnight Club (PS2): DON'T BOTHER!!! (214 words)

After sampling many of the playstation2's early gems i gave midnight club a try as it got reasonable but not excellent reviews and i had played all the others that i wanted to. Midnight club is a based on the illegal night racing and tries to capture the excitement of it and coming from angel studios, the creaters of the excellent Midtown Madness series on the pc and their first ps2 classic Smugglers run, u'd expect some exciting arcade thrills but unfortunately not, the GRAPHICS are poor and grainy and what makes it worse is that smugglers run has an infinite draw distance, in real terms of around five miles!.The actual GAMEPLAY is repetitive and the ...  Read the complete review
