Hockey is, by it's nature, a fast game. It's easy for the casual viewer to completely lose track of what's going on at any given moment. So how would a games manufacturer cope with this? Would they go for making the game as realistic as possible, and leave the poor player to try and keep up with the action, or would they slow down the game and make it more playable? You probably won't be surprised to hear that EA went for the former approach. So NHL 2004 is indeed hyper-realistic, but can be very hard to play!
