Advantages: learn the basic storyline, very cheap now, some replay value

Disadvantages: getting old now, not for everyone, can be quite shocking

Onimusha is the first of the trilogy of games that has taken the warring states ages to the extreme

Storyline

10 years ago the feudal lord called nobauga oda was in major battle for control of the land of Japan and just as they take the opposition head nobauga is shot in the neck by a random arrows and is killed instantly. Now 10 years from the death of the great feudal lord a young samurai warrior called Samanoske has been urgently called to help the young princess yuki who beening attacked by what sources have called them as demons! You rush as fast as you can to get to her but it is too late she has already been captured so get ready to face the demon overlord and it armies, the hunt has begun

Gameplay
The moves are basic enough to complete the game you have to complete the certainly hard puzzle and slay a decent amount of demons to get to where you are going. Near the beginning you are given a special type of gauntlet so that whenever you kill a demon you gain either 3 types of souls
Red souls: these can be used to upgrade your current weapons and items, you can upgrade your weapons to lv3 and with each level gained the power you weapon does on a magic attack or a slash attack increases
Yellow souls these restore some of your health
Blue souls these souls help you get back some of the magic power
Along the way you can collect special little gems that can increase your personal stats, the yellow one increases your max health and the blue gems increase the max magic bar.
The weapon that can be found are
Normal sword: this is you beginning sword and it not that good in attack strength and cannot be upgraded at all so you will want to get rid off these as fast as you can

Thunder sword: this is the first magically weapon you get in the game, it as the same speed as the normal sword and has a lot more attack power and it magic attack has you slashing the enemy with lots of quick slashes and then a giant thunder bolt to finish it off and is my personal favourite.

Fire sword this is a heavy weapon that cannot strike down the more faster enemies but for what it lacks in speed it makes up in power as when it levelled up to lv 3 it can pretty much kill anything you see and it magic attack is basically a line of fire straight at your enemy.

Wind double blade this is the quickest weapons in the game so you can imagine that it lack in strength but has great speed it magic attack is that it generates a mini tornado that cause damage to anyone near it.

The bishamon sword, this is the greatest weapon in the game but you will have to work really hard to get this special weapon, the way you get it is by doing the dark realm side mission, this is a game where you have to defeat the demons on each level until they are all killed you cannot go down to the next level and so on until you get to the last level floor 20, when you kill all the demons here a special treasure is found called the bishamon flute and this is used on a certain door near the end and then you gain the special weapon the bishamon sword, this is fast and powerful and you can use the special magic attack as many times as you want because it has unlimited magic power and it special attack can killed any non boss enemy in one attack and that is what I called good

you can also have ranged attack as you can have a bow and arrow and a matchlock( this is an old fashion type of gun) which one of these have two different type of ammo for each of these weapons.

Also in certain points of the game you can play a female ninja who has great speed and agility however she cannot improve anything with her and she cannot absorb souls. They are lots of mint little extras you can get from completing the game, like if you get a s rank you can have the ability to have your fellow ninja have a batgirl suits on and have Samanoske in a panda suit with the oni gauntlet into a flower and with the mini oni game. In this mini game you have to collect as many souls as you can before the demons can absorb the fallen oni souls and if you complete this then you will be able to play the ultra cool ultimate mode, in this mode you have unlimited magic power, lots of arrows and the bishamon sword right at the beginning and that is what I called a easy ride.

Graphics
As this game is pretty old now it may not have as great a graphics as it later editions but it has average quality and looks ok

Overall
This is a great game that has maybe got a bit rusty with age but can still offer you a good game and with great value as it is about a fiver at most major game shop so get slashing
