Advantages: Good graphics, exciting gameplay, play as Kong!
Disadvantages: Puzzles are repeated
Peter Jacksons King Kong The Official Game of The Movie is an unnecessarily long title for the action game developed by Ubisoft for the Playstation 2.
The games story follows the plot of Peter Jacksons adaptation of the classic story, you play as Jack Driscoll as you journey across Skull island trying to shoot a movie, you find out that Skull Island isn't a safe place to be as it is swarming with Dinosaurs and unfriendly natives and of course the giant ape King Kong who wants to kidnap Ann who is meant to be the star of the movie. You journey through skull island eventually capturing the great King Kong and take him back to New York for the classic Kong climbs the Empire State building scene.
The gameplay is a mix of shooting and puzzle solving, the game keeps the interface clean with no on screen count for bullets and the like you can make your character check though and he will tell you how many clips you have on standby. There are a few different types of gun to pick up and you can use them to battle the various creatures of the island like small dinosaurs. You also battle against larger foes like T Rexes which are really epic but you cannot kill them and have to just run away, shooting down other dinosaurs for the T Rex to feed upon giving you time to get to safety.
To get through the game you will frequently have to solve puzzles though this basically comes down to finding a lever so you can open doors or using fire to burn down the rough jungle terrain that prevents you from proceeding.
You also get to control the mighty ape himself King Kong in a variety of battles against large foes like dinosaurs and the combat here is immensely brutal as Kong can snap their jaws and hurl them off cliffs. Kong is also really agile and you will do some platforming gripping on to vines and swinging from branch to branch, these sections are really short but some of the most fun that is to be had in the game.
Graphics are actually very good in this game, with the larger enemies looking really impressive, little touches like when the T Rex roars at you the area around its mouth blurs which makes it look like air is rushing out.
King Kong is an excellent action game offering exciting gameplay in the first person but particularly as Kong.
Summary: You can play as a giant gorilla, what more do you want!
