Pro Evolution Soccer then. I heard the first one was to quote a friend "pretty damned good". After falling in love with the original ISS Pro Evo on the PSX, I couldn't wait to get my grubby mits on this. Oh how I was wrong... Putting it simply, and bearing in mind I've never played Pro Evolution Soccer 1, I found Pro Evo 2 a mixed bag. Sometimes you can genuinely be enjoying it, then something will happen which just gets my goat. And from the supposed "best football game ever", it happens far too often for my astute liking. First and foremost I must address the gameplay, being the most important of any football game. ... Read the complete review

Life isn?t fair. Girls Aloud recently beat Electric Six to the number one spot in the music charts. Family Guy is still overshadowed by the now stale Simpsons. And every year, without fail, Fifa outsells Pro Evolution Soccer. The dreaded ?casual gamer? regarded with such pure, unfiltered hatred across the internet is the staple of Electronic Arts? annual effort; the TV adverts, celebrity endorsements and licensed soundtracks entice the easily led, the people who buy PS2s because they?re more popular, and call the Gamecube childish even though they themselves are only nine. Meanwhile, Konami?s game sits on the shelves. Fifa has always been disliked because it ... Read the complete review

Every year we get several - average (FIFA) and/or below (This Is Football) par - football releases. You learn to expect repetitious and profuse final products to arrive in your local game's store. Call me cynical but a new addition of the same Fifa (bar the latest installment) every year is starting to tire... a lot. "New leagues, new AI, new face models, new game-play", new this new that, but still, nine times out of ten we're getting the same game with extras. It seems that these days when it comes to football games you have to be very tolerant and wise to the drivel that developers feed you, if you don't want to be disappointed by what your ... That was title #1 in a series of misleading titles. Many said that Pro Evolution Soccer (the European release of Winning Eleven 5) was sheer perfection. This is wrong - it is not the perfect simulation, rather the most accurate football game out there. Pro Evolution Soccer 2 had a few main points that it needed to improve upon: 1. Slightly improve the shooting system 2. Better commentary 3. Licensed team and player names 4. Adjustable match length in Master League Mode So after purchasing my copy of Pro Evolution Soccer 2, and after a few hours intensive play, here is the lowdown - have they improved the best simulation yet? ... After the dismal Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) I didn't expect any miracles from the sequel, Pro Evolution Soccer 2 (PES2). I thought I'd give it a try after reading numerous complimentary reviews. The games box says there are hundreds of new additions, there probably are, in fact they probably counted changing all the club team names to hilarious fictional ones as 40 additions. The one major improvement to the actual gameplay is that the players have sharper responses to your controls. The appalling slippery sliding players in PES have been replaced with slightly less uncontrollable ones. This is perhaps the only real difference between the two games, but one which ...
