With the football season commencing a few months ago it was inevitable that Konami would release another football game, this time it?s the sequel to the highly successful Pro Evolution Soccer aptly entitled Pro Evolution Soccer 2. Initially PES2 seems hauntingly familiar to the original as graphically the games are almost identical. However, delve a little deeper into PES2 and it?s a totally different ball game. Gameplay has improved dramatically, the passing is more realistic and everything flows together at an optimum pace. Playing PES2 would be a dream if it weren?t for terrible commentary courtesy of Peter Brackley and Trevor Brooking. Another area of negativity is the team names, due to licensing problems no club teams are called the correct names - Villa are called Dublin! It doesn?t affect the gameplay, thankfully, just takes away an element of authenticity.
The master league is the main mode in PES2 boasting three divisions for the gamer to work through and ?master.? PES2 really is the ultimate experience for football fans with ?extreme? mode challenging even the most advanced gamers. PES2 is definitely worth checking out despite baring similarities to the original PES, but why fix something that isn?t broken?

'why change something that isn't broken', and 'gameplay has improved dramatically', two conflicting statements.

The obvious answer to the first question is that it the first PES was so hopelessy broken it needed an emergency operation. The slightly improved reactions in PES2 go someway to showing up just how bad PES1 is. They still don't go anywhere approaching far enough though.
