Advantages: Excellent gameplay, genuinly difficut, separates men from the boys
Disadvantages: commentary, menus, sound
Looking at the other football games around, you see This is Football (TIF) and the FIFA ranges. They both, especially FIFA are very well advertised and have all the licenses so that you don't see Davde Bekcman anywhere on your screens. FIFA also has the voice of Motty (John Motson, legendary commentator) and exceptionally cool graphics, layout and intermdediate menus. The problem however, and will always remain a problem, is that FIFA and TIF are perfect for anyone under the age of 10 - anyone looking to play an 'easy' game where glamorous goals and exquisite passing manouvers and body control come with the touch of one button!
Looking at Pro Evolution Soccer 6... I cannot stand the sound... I cannot stand the hideous menu layout and colours... I cannot stand the commentary either! It still doesn't stop the true football fans and console gamers from purchasing the game... Why I hear you ask?... Because PES 6 requires patience, skill, calm, intricate play and love for football... The game play is virtually unknockable - it simply is amazing. The passing, the shots, the goals... and everything you do.. you have earnt it... So if you really work hard in the game, the rewards will show... No FIFA player would ever understand that scoring from a simple 1-on-1 situation would be such a reason for celebration... well it is in PES 6! Header and volleys for goalscoring opportunities is rare and exceptionally difficult, just as taking free kicks and corners... Penalties don't always go in either! This is REAL football, and has been perfectly simulated in this game!
The type of game formats have been made as exhibitions, mini-leagues, leagues, tournaments, practices, custom tournaments and The Master League. It is the latter where this game makes its name. You can start with your team, but with either the original players, or make it even harder with THEIR original custom players and start in the lower tier of your 2 league system. It's difficult to manage the money, as the more wins and tournaments (and goals) results in more money. You question yourself as whether to invest in 1 superstar player, or a few young guns at the end of your 1st season... Difficult choice... would you buy Torres or 4 of Arsene's young guns.. of which would all drive hard sells! This Master League system is excellent, and will have you hooked for hours!
Summary: This is REAL football, and has been perfectly simulated in this game!
