There are many horror titles out there which involve all manner of zombies, demons etc. but there are not many games or weren't when this was released where ghosts are your main enemy and that's why this horror game is original.
With this game I found it pretty chilling and scary and is a real survival horror classic. The game itself is based on a true story where the player takes on a quest through a haunted mansion that is filled with mourning ghosts who were killed off many years before. You could be the next one to die!
I think at this stage it's worth comparing this title to games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil which I also love. In those games you run around with a set of weapons at your disposal and solve puzzles and fight monsters on the way. The thing that differs with this game is that you are not using a gun, knife or any other sort of weapon like that. When you are ghost hunting the best way to harm them is to equip an antique camera. As there is no physical way to kill a ghost unlike other monsters, this speical camera has the ability to rid the house of their presence by taking their photos.
However, unlike other horror titles, this game is a little different in the game overall. Through dank, dark corridors and candle-lit rooms and also outdoor areas, ghosts are limited in numbers. The game has a setup where you normally have to fight a ghost after one of the cutscenes.
For me this game does just enough to scare any player into hiding. Although there are no major violent scenes or blood, the game still does a decent job and enough to keep you interested for long periods. You can unlock new features like Battle and Nightmare modes.
Fans of horror games will probably love this release as it's a bit different...
Arguably the best survival horror game of all time, Project Zero takes terrifying Japanese movies such as Ringu as its chief inspiration in this creepy tale of a girl desperately searching for her lost brother in an abandoned mansion where some very, very terrible things have happened...
