Advantages: Amazing graphics, Many modes to play, Good fun with other players

Disadvantages: Badly let down by the control method

Quake 3 Revolution is a direct port to the Playstation 2 from its PC rival. Its basically Quake 3 Arena on the PS2. Quite simply the game is a must for any Playstation 2 owner. In my opinion, there is one thing that lets the game down big time, and that is the controls. Anyway, I will explain all later on in my opinion.

The game allows you to play over many different modes. These ranging from your classic deathmatch mode where you blast everything and everyone in sight until the frag limit has been reached or the time runs out to new modes such as possesion. Possesion mode is great fun if you like to run and hide in a big arena and watch others trying to find you whilst they search for the flag you have stolen from their enemy base. There is a time limit which you have to keep hold of the flag for. If someone steals the flag from you the clock stops counting down the remaining seconds you have to hold it for to win the match. This is great fun when you have friends around as you can form teams to assault the player with the flag. Other new game modes which arent in the PC version are, one shot deathmatch where one shot kills the opponent instantly, one shot team deathmatch...and several other PC modes.

Now, getting onto the controls. With the PC version, you had several control methods. These ranged from keyboard, mouse, joypad, joystick and other peripherals. With the PS2, the standard control format you have is a controller. The two analogue sticks are used for different things. The right hand analogue stick is used to control whether or not you want to look up or down, left or right. The left analogue stick moves the character around the map you play on. Along with this you have to control firing with the X button and changing your weapon with the Square button and running with the shoulder buttons. All too complicated and troublesome to allow you to gain some high decent fragging scores. The control method makes the game ex
tremely difficult as their is so much to take into account. The basic mind of a human being can only remember about 5 things before they start to forget and with this game, there are just too many control features to pick up on. You could alternatively buy a PS2 mouse but then you would have to be a hardcore gaming fan to spend nearly £60 on Quake 3 Revolution and a mouse.

Overall, a good game with amazing graphics but is let down by the control method.

I used to be hooked on Quake, and when my brother in law to be got it for the playstation, we all played via the use of a multi tab, and it was excellent! Good op, very detailed. :)
