Advantages: Cute, without being vomit-inducing, excellent fun, just the right level of hardness

Disadvantages: Bit samey in places

Want to play as a cute.... (what the hell is he?) bouncing his way through space against equally cute characters, weilding a superb array of weaponry whilst being amused by some above average humor in the plot? Then this game is for you.

I just fancied a well-rounded, cute platformer that I could happily thrash around with for a few hours in between the seriousness of games like Max payne and Grand Theft Auto. Ratchet and Clank didn't disspoint. You take control of street-wise ratchet and his companion, the deadpan clank as they battle accross various planets in their quest to topple an evil dictator.

The game is just glorious. Fantastic graphics (if not the greatest the world has ever seen) and simple gameplay which is moved on by the addition of new weapons and equipment (grind boots, rocket sleds, grenade launcers, metal detectors, ray guns etc etc). Sometimes it feels a bit samey, and there may be times when you leave the game alone for a few weeks, but you'll come back to it time and time again.

It's one of those great games that appeals to kinds and grown ups alike, with more than a little knowing humor thrown into the mix to liven things up.

In short, jump, whack, blast and fly your way through a multitude of locations and have a few laughs in there while you're at it.
