Red Faction - Join The Revolution !

Intro
------
Red faction is the story of the Ultor Mining corporations downfall. You play Parker, a miner employed by Ultor. You came to Mars and join this mining corporation called Ultor for the hope and supposed promise of a better life. None of this promise is true and to make things worse the guards working for Ultor are contiunally agressive towards the miners. Plus the fact that a plauge is sweeping through the mines killing many miners that become infected. As it stands among the miners, it looks as if a revolt is on the hands as the miners are getting continually frustrated with Ultor.

Gameplay
------------

In Red Faction you play Parker and work your way through the single player mode revolting against and leading the fight for revolution against Ultor. Red Faction is fantastic purely down to the story and the gameplay. The gameplay is brilliant as you can destroy just about anything in your enviroment thanks to 'Geo Mod' technology. You can blow up bridges, doors, walls, rooms, pillars, vehicles etc.... its great and high up there on the action front. The range of weapons available include machine guns, pistols, shotguns, snipers, grenades, lasers etc.. so this is very appealing as you have a large choice of guns to choose from. You get a wide selection of vehicles to choose from each with their own unique attributes that make them so enjoyable to drive.

As well as the single player mode there is a multi player mode allowing you to battle either bots (the games own players that are generated into the game) or some of your human friends. The two player mode is a fantastic addition to this game and is well worth it. There is many maps to choose from as well as bots to add in and you can even change there difficulty levels making their A.I either really poor or extremely clever. 2 player is a blast to play and is highly enjoyable if you have a few of your mates over.

Graphics
-----------

Red Faction has pretty damn solid graphics if i must say so. There usually pretty detailed and well defined and always solid and complete. The destruction you cause looks very realistic which is a great compliment towards the graphics engine. The glass shatterings is very real and so is the various explosions you will encouter throughout the game. The guns are all extremely well detailed as are the vehicles. Considering this game is rather old now, its amazing to see how powerful the graphics remain in todays concept of next gen gaming.

Sound
--------

Red Faction is home to fantastic sounds. The guns are punch and realistic sounding, from the various bangs and explosions to the rapid fire machine guns and close up sounding shotguns. The explosions sound very realistic and loud. The speech in the game is very clear which is good as you actually understand the things everyone is saying. Sound plays a large part in this game for me and makes it complete.

My Opinion
--------------

Red Faction was my first real taste of a fantastic First Person Shooter (next to half life) Its got a fantastic story and exceptional gameplay which in turn makes this game highly enjoyable to play. The characters you meet throughout the game all have there own level of uniqueness as well as the various other aspects they contain. The levels are solid in detail and fun to go through. I also love going against my mates in the 2 player mode in a deathmatch, its very addictive and full of action !
It feels great getting your own back at the guards and its great to see the story of the game unfold from start to finish as you play through.

Overall
---------

A very complete game thats a pure joy to play. The graphics, sound and gameplay make this game a true classic in the FPS genre. I give this game 5/5 as it really was the first FPS game that shook the PS2 and showed everyone how good they are
