Advantages: Gunplay is good, Geo mod
Disadvantages: Geo mod doesnt always work! Vehicles are poor
Red Faction is a shooter for the Playstation 2 developed by Violition
The story mode follows a miner called Parker, he is a miner working away in the mines of Mars with others and finally they have had enough of their horrible working conditions and rise up against the Ultor Corporation who run the mines. The story has you taking back the mines from the evil Ultor company and eventually blow up the mines! It isn't the most engaging of plotlines yet it is good enough to sustain your interest through the experience of the game.
Gunplay in this shooter is really good, the guns all control well and there are many varieties of weapons for you to get your mitts on. From assault rifles, pistols, shotguns theyre all here and very satisfying for you to use against those nasty Ultor soldiers.
The best part of this shooter is the Geo Mod technology they have packed into it, what this allows you to do is blow up the games environments. For example, you need to get through a wall you could waste alot of time wandering around and find your way around it.
Or simply get out your rocket launcher and blast a hole in it! Great fun but the game does limit ammo to these explosive weapons which disappointed me slightly, and also in places Geo Mod doesn't work as well as it should with sometimes hilarious results, like a floating building held up by a mere strand of stone!
There are vehicles for you to control in this game too but those sections I found to be rather dull though there is good variety in the selection of vehicles, from aircraft, submarines, jeeps.
Graphically the game is pretty strong, the Geo Mod technology gives it a bit of a wow factor but its unimpressive when it doesn't work as expected!
Red Faction is a very good first person shooter that you should definitely try out.
Summary: A good shooter.
