Resident Evil: Code Veronica X is essentially the awkward middle-child of the Resident Evil series - it knows no place, nor has any particular audience. Many who have played the other main canonical instalments of the series have not played or even heard of this game. Originally released on the sadly departed Dreamcast in 1999, it was re-released for the PS2 a few years later as "Code Veronica X", but sadly, it is still very much a cult title that not enough gamers have played. After having played as Jill twice in the previous games, Code gives you a chance to play as Claire Redfield once again, this time held on a South American Island, where, of ... Resident Evil <said in the scary tone of voice at the start of the game!> Code Veronica X is Capcoms newest addition to the Resident Evil series. Some people say it is “the most terrifying game series ever…”. I don’t know about that yet! Maybe I shouldn’t be writing a review about this game so soon after me getting it? After all, this sort of game takes even experienced gamers ages to complete….. What chance have I got!? Oh well, I’ll try my best to review the game as best as I can even though I’ve not yet got very far! ====================== ~ First things first ~ ... Read the complete review

After having played four Resident Evil games over the last five years – yes, I played Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and the hidden treasure that is Resident Evil Survivor – I can tell you this much about the series: I’m tired of it. It’s not all that fun anymore. Everything about it is as old and creaky as the slow loading doors in Resident Evil. I mean it. The whole series needs some serious WD-40. But perhaps that’s not even strong enough. When I see a game like Capcom’s genius Devil May Cry, or even play the cool, impressive Onimusha, it’s nearly impossible to go back and play Resident Evil ... Read the complete review

The creators of Resident Evil (Resi) haven't really tried anything new over the past couple of years. They've gone with the notion that if it isn't broken then don't fix it. When they did finally try a new idea, that being Survivor for the Playstation they ultimately failed to do the game any justice. So when I heard that they were re-making the Code Veronica game for the Playstation 2 I was kind of happy. Prelude: Code Veronica started life on the ill-fated Dreamcast console and was well received as one of the consoles best games. It was the first Resi game that included real-time three-dimensional back drops in place of the ... Read the complete review

Rating:
Anyone who is a true veteran of horror movies would chuckle at Resident Evil’s use of every movie cliché in the book, they’d pick it apart for relying on awkward camera angles to generate tension, and, most significantly, the use of the ‘short-sharp-shock’ would roll off their cynical personas like water under a bridge. Fortunately, for the rest of us, this series still manages to create moments of genuine fright; be it a once lifeless zombie reaching up to chew on your leg, a tentacle exploding without warning from a solid wall, or simply running into an area which you cleared earlier and finding it packed to the rafters with shuffling ...
