Advantages: more challenging, better graphics and enemy ai

Disadvantages: no real storyline and should have been ment for online play

Resident evil outbreak is I have to say disappointing but great at the same time. There are many advantages with the game but at the same time disadvantages for example I really think that this game would have been a lot more enjoyable with the online capability. But on the up there are 8 playable characters and a lot of content and mini games to unlock as well as further playable characters.

History

Back in the first instalment of the series on the outskirts of racoon city strange reports of mysterious beings and attacks were being reported in and around racoon city. Citizens were being attacked by groups of about 10 people, the victims were apparently eaten. Also strange aggressive k9 like beings were being reported in the mountains just outside racoon forest, this lead to further investigation to a mansion deep in racoon forest, in time bravo team of the racoon cities police S.T.A.R.S members were sent to investigate…… contacted was lost close to arrival. The rest of the S.T.A.R.S team were sent to find bravo team on arrival they were attacked by k9 like creatures and had discovered that bravo team had been attacked, they headed for the mansion. The plot thickens and the team discover that the mansion is in fact an under cover research lab that is run by a pharmaceutical called umbrella and they are illegally performing viral and genetic experiments on animals and humans. As the team survive there way through flesh eating zombies and mutated animals they discover that there captain Albert wesker has been working for umbrella all along and has ideas on the t-virus and its ultimate creation, the tyrant. In the end the mansion is blown up and Jill valentine, Chris Redfield and Rebecca chambers survive there ordeal with the help of there chopper pilot brad vicars a happy ending for all right, wrong in the second instalment the t-virus has made its way into racoon city its self and has turned the whole city into flesh eating zombies. The creator of the t-virus is introduced dr William birken, umbrella special tactics team are sent to steal birkins other ultimate creation the g-virus, William injects the g-virus into his own body and is transformed into a 10 ft mutation and stops the g-virus from getting to umbrella but in turn by destroying the vials it is carried into the city by rats. Leon s Kennedy arrives at racoon city as a rookie cop and caught amongst the mayhem on his first day on the job. Resident evil 3 starts in-between 2, in this instalment the viral outbreak has become out of control and plans are being made to nuke the city in order to stop the virus flowing out of racoon city. What’s left of the S.T.A.R.S team are now being hunted down by a g-virus bio weapon named nemesis, nemesis has been sent by umbrella to eliminate the remaining S.T.A.R.S members to stop umbrellas dark secret getting in to the wrong hands.

Storyline
Confusingly in between resident evil 3, resident evil outbreak starts. This instalment doesn’t have a general storyline witch is disappointing, the main plot of the game is to survive and escape before racoon city is wiped of the map.

Game play
The game play is a lot more detailed than the previous games for example you can now kick down locked doors and use melee weapons. Also you play your missions with 2 other characters witch can aid you when you are in trouble, you trade items with your characters as well as you can only carry 4 items as appose to the usual 8, these little features make the game a lot more challenging, as an up point makes you think a lot more, the main aim in this type of genre I think.

Enemy Ai
The enemy ai is lot more challenging this time around. The zombies are a lot harder to defeat, they also move a lot quicker and can now open doors and can walk upstairs. The zombies also need to be finished off or they get back up and keep coming, this standalone feature gives the game more challenging, faster pace.

Graphics
The graphics are a lot more realistic this time around. The levels are a lot more detailed and the character animation varies a lot more as appose to the earlier games
The levels are a bit more confined but this to the effect of the city being on its last legs. Another little thing that stands out is the fmv’s, they are absolutely fantastic if you are going to play this games watch the fmv at the end of the first mission it uses every inch of the ps2 power a must see.

Content
There is a lot more content in this one, as weel as the classic mini games there is now music, more characters and lots of concept art to be purchased from earning points from the mission. As well as these you can also purchase all the fmv’s in the game to watch again and again

In my opinion this game is fun to play, it is a must play as it is a stand alone game.
Give it go if not familiar with resident evil games, I’m sure you will have a lot of fun.

That just about raps it up, thanks for reading my review sorry if I rambled and please rate, good or bad is always useful
i got this game the day it came out at £29.99 but you can pick this game up at any secondhand game store for about £10
so give it a shot.

Now go, save racoon city you’re the only one who can!

Thanks again
T-virus

Summary: the game play is a lot more fun so give it a go

Sounds a good 'un - now I've exhausted my four Silent Hill's and most of the other Resident Evil's, I reckon I should look into this. A fine review :) tom

I love the RE games though I only discovered them about 4 years ago. I will give Outbreak a go for its own sake but dont think it'll be one to add to my collection. Brilliant review, your passion for the other RE games came across well which is difficult to do. x
