Rock Band for Playstation 2 is a music video game which is the first title in the Rock Band series. This version was released in 2007 by Harmonix Music Systems and published by MTV Games and Electronice Arts.
This game allows up to four players to simulate the performance of some of the greatest and most popular rock music songs. You can do this by playing with the controllers which are modelled on different musical instrument. The players can play the lead guitar, bass guitar and drums sections of songs with these controllers in addition to being able to sing along with a USB Microphone. You are then scored on your abililty to match musical notes that scroll across the screen while playing instruments or your ability to match the singer's pitch on vocals.
In regards to songs there are 58 core songs which are included on the game disc and over 750 you can download as well. So there's plenty to keep you interested.
For me this one of the most creative games I have ever played. One of the things I love about it is that you can have a singer, two guitar players and someone on drums for the songs so you can all play at the same time as a group and share the fun of being in a rock band. This makes things more challenging as everyone needs to keep it together for the sake of the band. The only problem is that the drums only have 4 pads so are not that realistic.
The other small problem with this game is that there are not too many songs unless you download some to the game and most of them are old so if there could be more varied songs and newer ones it would be much better. Still, despite this, this game is fantastic and well worth playing as it's great fun for all and your chance to be part of a successful rock band.
This has to be the best game ever to come to the Playstation 2! I heard about this game coming out on the the nextgen consoles and was worried we wouldn't get it.
Let's get the bad bits out of the way first.....well, it's just one bad bit really and it's understandable. Where the Xbox and Playstation 3 versions can go online and purchase new song tracks for the game, the Playstation 2 version cannot. This is because the PS2 has nowhere to store any tracks you might have downloaded. I was disappointed there's not online play (player vs player) though.
Anyway, the game....You need 1 or 2 Guitar controllers, a Drum controller and a microphone and then you and up to 3 mates (4 of you in total) can 'play' the songs included on the disc.
The guitar 'playing' is nothing like playing a real guitar and it won't teach you to play guitar, it's just a fun approximation of playing guitar. It has been said that if you can play the drums on here on expert then you could play a basic beat on real drums, but I am not sure how accurate that is.
There are 4 difficulty levels, and if you've never played this type of game before you WILL have to start on easy, and you'll wonder how people manage to play it on hard mode...but stick with it and in a few days you'll get the hang of it, it just takes a little patience.
As if usual with this type of game there is a wide variety of rock tracks, guaranteeing there's something for everyone...but at the same time that means there will inevitably be tracks that you don't like too.
The general feel of the game is slick, well-presented and loading times are pretty good (especially compared to Guitar Hero:World Tour which takes ages). There are less options than on the nextgen console versions, but the core game is there and is all that really matters.
This game is amazing fun! If you can get 3 mates and all get on this game together you can't fail to have a great time!
Rock Band for the play station two is a very fun and addicting game. It's a great game to play if you ever have friends over, or it would be fun to play even by yourself. Try to refrain from buying Rock Band for the playstation two though. This version doesn't have downloadable content like the others do. On the other versions, you can download songs, but on the playstation two version, you don't have it.
There also isn't a rocker maker. You can't make your own rocker avatar, so you have to use the preset ones for the songs.
Rock band for playstation two also doesn't have the band world tour. This sucks beacuse this is a real fun part of rock band for other game platform versions.
Overall, I give this game a 4/5 because it's a great game and fun to play with friends, but it doesn't have good parts to it that the other versions do.
I hope this helped people out!
