the best rugby game on the market, but not great (Rugby 08 (PS2))

I have always been a much bigger rugby fan than football fan. Because of this I have always been on the lookout for a really good rugby game for my PS2. I always got annoyed by the fact that there are so many seemingly good football games (not that I have played many of them) and yet not so many good rugby games.

I was not so impressed with this game. I found the controls to be clumsey and hard to get used to. Maybe it is the nature of the game that it does not translate well into an electronic format. Afterall there is nothing to say that just because the game is great on the park that it is going to be great on your PS2.

I liked this game, but I didnt love it. I wanted to like it more than I actually did like it. Graphically it is stunning, and the controls are better than on previous rugby games that I have played. But I just found the computer controlled characters to not behave the way that I would have liked. It is still far to easy for the player you control to launch the ball into the middle of nowhere. It is still too hard to keep track of where the players next to you are. You can be the best in the world at this game and it will still make you look like a rank ameture.

I still long for a really good rugby game, and whilst I admit that this is probably the best on the market just now, it lacks the edge that I want.

Maybe I am setting my expectations too high, perhaps the game just does not translate onto an electronic format. I dont know. What I do know is that whilst this game is the best of its genre on the market, and whilst this game looks amazing. It is only average.
