Advantages: Great Graphics, First in the series, Done By Koei

Disadvantages: Similar to Dynasty Warriors 4, Gets repedative after a while

This review is about Samurai Warriors for the Playstation 2. It is made by the same creators of Dynasty Warriors 4 and Romance of the three kingdoms VIII. Koei is the creator, and they are brilliant to make such a game like this. This game is about controlling empires to take out other empires, and take revenge on past experience. Very fun to play, nice to kill the enemy without feeling guilty.

Samurai Warriors has many characters, well has 15, and they all have their own special abilities, and have different storylines to match. There are many levels that once unlocked from story mode; you get to play them in free mode. Which you are able to train your characters up, to make it easier to defeat the enemy. When you complete a mission, you get skill points which enable you to learn skills, like double jump, or when near death attack doubles.

Also when you complete a mission, you stats go up slowly, like your attack, defence, mounted attack, mounted defence and all that. More in depth then Dynasty Warriors, as you also train your speed and jump ability and agility. It’s good to watch your character grow in strength.

Within battles, you can pick up items by defeating officers, or you might pick up a weapon instead, which could consist of being the same weapon as yours, but with different affects, or the next level in weapon, which will consist of more attack power and attacks. There are quite a few items that need to be collected, some of them increase your attack power, or maybe to increase your speed, then there are some that are harnesses, which allow you to start a battle mounted on a horse. You being faster then it depend on your characters speed.

There are a lot of good characters, spread out from male to female, all tangling with other characters to make the ultimate storylines. Each character has their very own weapon, none of them are the same, and they all have many levels of weapons, which will increase their attacks to the most they can.

There are loads of great game environments which will delve you into the world of Japan, have fun with many ways to go, and many plans to fool your enemy into a trap. Follow instructions from your leader, and take down the enemy in many great Japanese environments which will make you feel your actually there.

There are over 90 playable stages, with loads of different endings, per each character, including the officer edit series, which is shared for all of them. Many ways to get these stages in story mode, and also all the levels in multiplayer which makes this game a must have.

There is an Active Mission System (AMS for short), which makes loads of mini missions appear within battle for you to do, which normally your general will tell you to do. Like stop the enemy fire attack, which will mean you will need to kill the officer or spy captain that is being asked to perform the fire attack. On your map it will have a blue x and a blue circle type thing, which means the x, is where the officer or spy captain is trying to get to, and the circle type shape is where the officer or spy captain is.

There is a great new officer mode, where you are able to name and train your very own officer, to make and achieve victory over China. You can train your officer in the art of melee, with a sword, spear or a naginata (double ended spear). Or you could train yourself in the art of stealth, horse riding, archery or other things that are there.

Also in new officer mode, there are events that happen within your training, and you have to rest after so many training, then once a year is over, you have to do your trials, which is up to you who you want to join, and it is hard to join them, as you have to do so well in their choices of stuff you will need to do.

If you complete the trial, then you will have your own storyline, and you will be able to play them in story mode of free mode, within your choice, or even 2 players, have fun with your new officer. You do not unlock any new characters with your new officer, only with characters from the actual game.

2 players is excellent, as you can either do free mode, or story mode together, or there is also a VS mode, where you are able to duel your friend or relative in battle, by taking out all the enemies officers, or get to 1000 kills before the enemy does, and loads others to enjoy yourself in with a friend.

This game is very playable, very enjoyable, on your own or with a friend, makes the day seam like minutes when you play this action packed game. The game is very enjoyable, makes you want to play it all the time, and very good with friends.

The game is very addictive, keeps you going through weeks over weeks, and probably still not completed it.

The game is not original, but it has original storylines and characters, it is such a similar game to Dynasty Warriors, which could be mistaken of being the same.

The graphics for this game is outstanding, all the officers and troops look so real, which makes the game even better worth of buying. The scenarios look real, and smooth, not pixily like some things are.

The music to this game is good, dismal and gritty, but it is good for what this game actually is, which makes the game livelier.

The sound effects of the game is also great, with the slashing of the swords, the screams of the death of the troops, and the running on the ground or riding on a horse, sounds like it was actually happening.

The voices are originally in English, but there is an option in options where you can change the language settings to whatever language you speak.

The game is not that difficult if you know what you’re doing, but if you’re new to this, then you might find this quite hard, as you have no idea of what you’re doing. The game is quite complex, you have to do loads of things to complete one mission, and sometimes when you complete the field battles, you have to battle in a castle on your own, which can be annoying sometimes.

This game is really worth its money, it is about £20 - £30 now as its been out for quite a while, and that is worth it, you get loads of game footage, extras in the Vault, and even trailers in the options mode for this sea battle game, Dynasty Warriors 4 Empires and Crimson Sea 2, which is great, makes you want to get them also. As they all are part of the Koei game series.

I think this game is great, excellent graphics, kick butt music, worth buying, I recommend this game to anyone. It has great moves, tactics that will make you mind boggle. I give this game 4 star, as Dynasty Warriors 4 is a better game in my point of view, and it is also brighter, unlike Samurai Warriors, which is all dark and gritty.

IF YOU LIKE THIS GAME… TRY DYNASTY WARRIORS!

Thanks for reading!
