Shinobi (PS2) ... after a sinister force is awakened in Tokyo, Hotsuma must confront demons from his past and defend his role as Leader of the Oboro Clan. Drawing off the ancient traditions of Ninja magic, Hotsuma uses wall running, shuriken attacks, and the coveted Akujiki Sword to fight the deadly masked foes that stalk him. With the special Stealth Dash technique, he creates ghost-like apparitions that confuse his enemies. He can then strike with a lightning-quick Tate in which his blade moves so fast the victims do not even realize they have been struck until they fall to their death. The long-running series is re-born with next-generation graphics and unlimited gameplay freedom. New combat techniques allow players to attack enemies in succession. Destroy objects to find secret passages, secret items and mysterious shortcuts. New gameplay mechanics allow players to run along walls, scale buildings, and perform multiple attacks with a sword or shuriken.

One throwback to the old times that may not be apprecaited as there aren't any checkpoints in the levels which means that when you are killed you have to go all the way back to the start of the level to start again. It has a few cute and orginial touches too, for instance the further you go in the game and more enemies you kill, the stronger you're sword becomes which allows you to kill enemies quicker and frankly in a much more brutal looking way. Shinobi is a highly detailed fighter on the PS2, fans of the original willprobably enjoy the ride as it really is a good nostalgia trip for all. It's a challenging game yet it's also fairly straightforward which is a nice little not to the simplicity of the original Shinobi back in the day. Gameplay is pretty tough to be honest as at sometimes it plays at a frantic pace.
