Advantages: Great storyline, excellent riddles, superbly chilling atmosphere
Disadvantages: None whatsoever
So, whats happening at this strange place they call silent hill this time? Well, only the best damn 1st person RPG ever! I loved silent hill 1 and 2. These games were just so different, and better, than other rpgs such as resident evil. SH doesnt just rely on you shooting the monsters to win. Theres so many other aspects to the game. The atmosphere SH creates is totally totally chilling, uncomfortable at best. The puzzles to solve are interesting, and usually quite difficult, and of course, the monsters are very disturbing. To appreciate SH3, you dont really need to have played or completed SH1 or 2, but, i think if you have played SH1, youll definately get more out of this game. For one simple reason, the characters are connected. In this game, you are a girl called Heather who, after calling her dad from a shopping mall, is visited by a very strange private investigator called Douglas. She tries to flee out of the toilet window, but ends up climbing out into a nightmarish world. The story develops in the usual astoundingly brilliant way. The cut sequences are excellent, from the graphics, to the dialogue. I dont want to give anything away, but the more you play it, the further you get, the more you want to know more, and it does get quite addictive, in the same way as you cant wait to see how a great movie ends. You can set the difficulty of the monsters, and also the difficulty of the riddles. The riddles are my favourite part of the game. It sets it apart from all other games, and although can be quite challenging, are really excellent. The atmoshpere the game creates is really heavy. I wouldnt play this game alone, i only play it when my mate comes round and then we play it together, constantly changing control, as no one wants to have to fight off the next weirdly mutated horrific monster. (sad, but true) Theres so many places to visit, and be prepared, because unfortunately you have to return to Silent Hill, and
to the dreaded mental hospital, there the desolate blooodied wheelchairs, and childrens toys leave you feeling very perturbed. The story really is gripping, and those of you who completed SH1 will love this game for the links between the two. I have to say that it isnt a game for the easily spooked, but everyone else will find this a really enjoyable game, that will keep you enthralled right to the end. And as it has several different endings depending on how well you play the game, you can go back, and have another go! So, go down to the shops, buy Silent Hill 3, get your mates round, get your comfort 'blankey' out, and come up with some excuses as to why you have you eyes closed every time you send heather through another suspiciously harmless looking door.

- 20/08/03 Decent review - I loved the first two Silent Hill's but haven't played this yet, but it sounds fab. One thing though, it's more of a third-person survival-horror game than a 1st-person RPG isn't it?
