Advantages: breath-taking graphics and gameplay, Simply awesome

Disadvantages: none.....so far!!

Silent Hill was the best survival horror game ever made. Fact. Why? Because it was the only one that ever paid any attention to the whole 'horror' part of survival horror. Simply, it was terrifying. No question about it - never before (nor since) had a game actually made me scared to open the next door for what I might find. Now, Silent Hill 2 promises to scare me half to death again.

The two greatest innovations the original had were the flashlight (since stolen by pretender to the throne Alone In The Dark) and the radio, and now the two seem to be even more impressively used in the sequel. Firstly, have you seen just how dark Silent Hill is this time round? Your flashlight realistically only illuminates the area right in front of you, leaving your character claustrophobically surrounded by darkness, and the radio's eerie hisses and crackles once more prove that it's scarier knowing there's someTHING somewhere out there than not knowing if there's a monster there or not.

What remains to be seen is if Dahlia & Co. are behind the whole thing again. With no-one even confirming when the sequel is set in relation to the first, it is possible that Alessa will be back in SH2, which would be welcome if only to clear up some of the vagaries of the plot to the convoluted original (Which I had to play through several times before it started making any sense).

But there is no doubt in my mind that this is the game to hold your breath for. Forget MGS2, Devil May Cry, or any of the others. If the short demo at E3 makes this much of an impression, then the finished product will undoubtedly be the PS2's crowning glory.
