Advantages: You Get To Sing!
Disadvantages: It is very truthful with it's ratings!
Hey everyone guess what I've got... You got it... The Singstar Party edition!!
This is just one of the most fantastic games I have played since the dancemats came out!
Ok, Singstar Party is the follow up to the Singstar - I don't own the first one as I can't stand Dido's Thank You song - Bad memories!
Singstar Party is a game where basically you have two microphones and sing along to the words on the tv. Sounds just like karaoke? In a way this is like karaoke, except its a million times better!
Buying The Product
You a can buy the singstar party in two different ways, with the microphones needed to play the game, this costs around £39.99. Or you can buy the game alone if you already have the first Singstar for around £29.99.
The Setup.
The singstar party is so easy to set up. All you need to do is plug the adapter into the USB port on your PS 2. This port is found in the corner just underneath where your controllers plug in. You will also need to have a controller plugged in as you will need this to navigate around the on screen menus. Thats it! Plug those to in, insert the disc and away you go your singstar is ready to use!
Options.
Singstar Party is a multi-player game or it can be played singlely... good idea if you want to practice and beat your mates!
There is a variety of different modes such as:
Solo: In this mode you sing alone and the computer will judge you on your singing ability and give you a final score and a rating.
Pass The Mic: This is for if you have a few of you playing. You set up your team and select the difficulty and length of the song. The computer will then select the team it wants to take part and will set them a challenge to complete. The team with the best score wins, makes sense really!
Duet: ah bless you and your mate can do a duet! This works almost the same as solo mode, except your points are combined together to give you your final score.
Battle: Ok so the person you chose to do the duet with wasn’t that good after all and you lost the competition, well here’s where to show them it was them and not you! In battle mode you still sing as a duet, however your points are not combined for the final score and it’s the person with the most points who wins!
Freestyle: Nice and simple, you choose a song and sing it! There’s no competition, no ratings, nice and relaxed!
The Words
Don’t worry if you don’t know all or even any of the words because all the words to all the songs appear at the bottom of the screen and they are highlighted for you when you are supposed to be singing that particular word.
The Ratings
Ok I keep mentioning these ratings so I better tell you about them!
When you sing a song in any of the modes mentioned other than Freestyle, you are scored for your singing ability and the ability to hit a note as close to the original artists as you possibly can.
You can try and keep track of roughly how well you are doing as you are singing the song, but I’d recommend concentrating on the words and tune and looking at your final score at the end!
As you sing there is a blue or orange bar which goes across the screen (the colour of the bar will match the colour of the microphone you are using) your aim is to sing as closely as you can to the artists original notes, if you can do this you will get extra points.
At the end of your song all these points will be added up and you will be given a rating which can be anything from Tone Deaf to Lead Singer!
The Eye toy
The Eye toy for those of you who don’t know is another PS 2 accessory where you use a small camera similar to a web cam so you can see yourself in the games. To be able to do this a game has to be compatible and will have a little eye toy symbol somewhere on the packaging to say so.
The singstar party is compatible with the eye toy, so in the duet, battle and pass the mic modes it is possible to take your photo and have it displayed as you sing! Pretty cool!
Playback.
After you have finished singing your song you have the option of Playback. This is basically where you can listen to the performance you just did and if you think you were really fantastic then hey why not save it and show off to all your mates! *make sure you save it straight away because if you come out of the screen you will loose it and will not be able to save it.
The Songs
On the Singstar Party there are 30 songs to choose from, each song comes as a full length version and there is an option of a shorter version too.
The songs are:
Alicia Keys.......................Fallin’
Ashford & Simpson........Solid
Bill Withers......................Ain’t No Sunshine
Blu Cantrell.....................Hit ‘Em Up Style

Spandau Ballet..............Gold
Spice Girls.......................Who Do You Think You Are
The Beautiful South.......A Little Time

There you go that’s the lot! It’s a great selection as there is something for everyone on there. Most of them also come with the original video to the song which will be shown in the background as you sing.
My Experience Of Singstar Party
I got Singstar party for Christmas 2004. Since then I have played this game many times, sometimes with my mates or my mum or other times just on my own when the house has been empty and I have known the neighbours were out!
The Singstar party is fantastic, and like it says in the title, it is great for parties! We had a party over Christmas and this provided a very entertaining evening for everyone!
I would recommend buying this game. Even if you can’t sing buy it anyway, you don’t need to be able to sing or have any sort of musical knowledge or even know any song words, all you need to do is try your best and have loads and loads of fun!
Summary: A great item to have, ideal for parties!

dididave - 09.04.06 Sounds good. I agree with Stu that the list broke up the flow a bit, could have been better tagged on the end. |
