Advantages: Hilarious fun for all of the family
Disadvantages: It's possible to cheat if you can hum really well
Singstar continues it's legacy with Singstar 80s, which works in a similar fashion to all of the other games.
Game Play:
There are three difficulty levels, easy, medium and hard, and there's quite a big leap between them, but don't worry if you always stay on easy, it's still hard to get a full score.
You can play with anywhere between one and 8 players, using a maximum of 2 microphones. If you want to play alone you can choose any song that you want, and sing it as many times as you want with the hope of getting a full score of 10000/10000. It sounds like a lot, but you get around 100 points per line, so long as you hit the notes, and extra for any bonus notes which sparkle as you sing them.
You can play a duet, whith two people of course, whereby you each sing different parts of the song together, and then your individual scores are combined. If however, you're slightly more competitive you can play battle mode, in which you each sing the same song twice and then whoever gets the higher score wins, or you sing the same song at the same time, but instead your scores get doubled to get individual scores out of 10,000.
Then there's party mode in which you split into teams and play different rounds, including medleys, first to 5,000 points, highest score wins, and pass the mic, in which all team members sing a few lines for a cumulative score. You can't choose the songs you sing in these rounds, although if you really don't like what you've been given, you can have 5 swaps each throughout the 8 rounds. At the end, the team with the most points (1 point per round) wins.
Featured Songs:
Culture Club: Karma Chameleon
Dexy's Midnight Runners: Come On Eileen
Vanilla Ice: Ice Ice Baby
Belinda Carlisle: Heaven is a Place on Earth
Simple Minds: Don't You (Forget About Me)
The Cure: Just Like Heaven
Nena: 99 Red Balloons
Frankie Goes to Hollywood: Power of Love
Blondie: Atomic
Kate Bush: Running up that Hill
Foreigner: I want to know what love is
Europe: The Final Countdown
Soft Cell: Tainted Love
Wham!: Wake me up before you go, go!
Pretenders: Brass in pocket
Billy Joel: Uptown Girl
Erasure: A little respect
Starship: We built this city
Katrina and the Waves: Walking on Sunshine
As you can see from the above list there's something for everyone, if you can sing high try Blondie's Atomic, if you can sing low (and I mean really low) try Tainted Love. There are fast songs, rap songs, slow songs, anthems, rocky numbers and the majority are simply feel-good classics that you'll want to sing again and again.
Overview:
This is the perfect party game, you can turn down the volume of your voice so that the tv only plays the real song, so that you don't embarrass yourself too much, or if you're willing to go for it, drown out the music with your own voice. Kids will love learning the new songs, the format is easy to understand and to follow, and you'll be amazed at how quickly you get addicted to playing.
Summary: As with all things, the early ones are best.
