Singstar '80s (PS2)
Advantages: Great music and song titles to sing
Disadvantages: Could be more choice of songs
This game is great fun and 80's songs were probably some of my favourites over time so this game is perfect. You can have one to eight players and since I got this for my playstation 2 have had a few times when we have had the family over and it's been really good to get everyone involved and singing along. I bought the bundle which contained two microphones as well.
No-one had played Singstar before so we were all new to it and there are few games of this type around this is definately worth considering if you like that era of music. The song selection chosen for this version is fantastic and there are many that you will know as we did. I have done a few karaoke sessions before in pubs when there's not many watching but this was far better as it's in the comfort of your own home.
Firstly when starting this game you have to enter a user name to play with and then you are taken to a music menu where you select the songs to sing. There are 27 songs to choose from.
Once you have made your song choice you can start the singing. On the bottom of the screen are two lines. The top line is what you currently need to sing and the bottom line is there to let you know the line that is coming up next so you can prepare for that. In order to aid the player singing at the time there is a bar that moves from left to right over the words in the top bar. This is so you know at what point to sing each word and keep up with the rhythm and beat of the song. If you hit a note correctly the pitch bar starts to fill up. At the end of the song the computer will inform you how you did and how much more practise is needed to become a superstar.
In addition when you make your song selection you get the option of whether you want to sing the short or normal full length version depending on how good you're feeling at the time.
Overall I would definately recommend this game, although perhaps there could be more songs to choose from. But it's great fun and fantastic to play with friends or family at a party for example.
Summary: Overall, a great family game
