Advantages: Great Songs, Great Fun

Disadvantages: None

I had never really heard of Singstar until about a year ago. I was staying at a friends house and we as having a girlie night in. So we had a nice meal (tuna pasta bake) a couple of bottles of wine and then the playstation came out. So armed with a microphone each we started to singalong to the songs on the first singstar disc which happened to be Rock Ballads. Now this is the disc I chose as I'm very much a rock chick and these are the songs I would much prefer to sing along to + I'm more likely to know them, although that doesn't matter as the words come up on the screen and it prompts you when to start singing.

Now this disc has some great songs on it and definitely some all time classics. Obviously they are songs that you can really sing loud to as they are ballads, and that we did. The disc has 30 original tracks on it and music videos to go with each one. Some of my favourite songs on the disc are; Lone Star, Amazed. Cutting Crew, (I just) Died in your arms tonight. Meatloaf, I'd do anything for love (but I wont do that) and Air Supply, All out of love. In fact there is a lot more on there that are absolutely fantastic.

Each song can be sang as a duet, solo, a battle between you and your friends, freestyle and pass the mic around. We opted to battle and at the end of each song it showed you your performance level and if you've hit a golden note. The scores were added up throughout the song on how well you did on these things and at the end you could see who had scored the highest. My friend had had a lot of practice so the first couple of times we played it was very rare for me to win.

The Rock Ballad disc is for 12+ as some of the songs contain bad language and sexual content.

There was one song on there that I personally didnt think belonged on a Rock Ballad disc but some people might disagree. The song is Sugababes, Too Lost in you. I just dont see the Sugababes as a rock band but then thats just my opinion.

The tracklist includes Air Supply, Alannah Myles, Anastasia, Avril Lavigne, Boston, Boy Meets Girl, Cutting Crew, Cyndi Lauper, Duran Duran, Europe,
Heart, Jon Secada, Lone Star, Marc Cohn, Meatloaf, Mr Big, Mr Mister, Nickelback, Nilsson, Poison, Queen, Roxette, Starship, Sugababes, The Calling, Tina Arena, Toto and T'Pau.

There is some great tracks on the disc with two from Roxette, It Must Have Been Love and Listen To Your Heart. And two songs by Mr Mister, Broken Wings and Kyrie.

There is a booklet inside the dvd that shows you what is included, such as the tracks, how to play, game modes, screen options and some tips from the experts.

Singstar Rock Ballads is a great disc for anyone who likes to rock out to some of the best rock songs around. I Love it and have since bought my own playstation an the Rock Ballads disc.
