Singstar Rocks was released was released in 2006 and has been a welcome edition to my (extensive) Singstar song library.
It is definitely a great disk to get out if most of your friends are into indie music- though if you are not a fan then the disk can be hard to play (as you don't know the songs) and not so much fun :-( As with all Singstar games, there are 3 levels of play difficulty and lots of different games to play such as solo, 2-battles and group games.
There are tracks from the likes of modern bands such as Kasbian, Coldplay and The Killers and more older bands such as Nirvana, Queen and The Rolling Stones, which makes it suitable for all ages. The songs also feature the videos which makes it great viewing too :-)

SingStar was in effect the start of the musical instrument based games, with Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Lips following in its path which will continue forever more as long as people with no music ability still like to kid themselves by playing to a digital crowd. Lets face it, its an advanced version of the air guitar! but still a hell of a lot of fun can be had with these type of games.
SingStar: Rocks is one of the many singstar games available, from Pop to 'Legends' there's plenty out there. This one has classic rock in the form of The Rolling Stones, Queen, Thin Lizzy & The Scorpions amongst others. These are lovingly placed with some more modern indie rock by Maximo Park and Bloc Party. Throw in a bit of Jet and Hard-Fi and you'll have the begininngs of the gist of the diversity of this game. 30 tracks which are nice and varied and offers something for everyone, young and old, male and female, tone deaf and singing legend.
The game requires one (or for duets or other multiplayer modes), two mics which can be bought with the game. As a solo singer the game may seem a little limited with the aim being purely to sing as close to the real version as possible, with your notes being tracked on the screen in blue or pink bars. At the end of the track you are rated on your performance and a table of high scores will track your ability.
Pass The Mic - sing a bit, pass it on - nice for groups of people
Duet - sing with a friend, some bits of the song will be for each of you and some will be for both
Battle - battle with someone, best singer wins essentially
The game from a solo point of view has limited playbackability though the music videos in the background do make the game more interesting but it is essentially a game meant for two really. Playing this the other night it really came into its own when people were taking it in turns and laughing at how people were singing etc.
A great social game perfect for parties!
Note: the ps3 version offers downloadable extra songs adding to the game even more!
Singstar Rocks! is the 2006 singstar release aimed at all you rock stars out there.
With 30 songs from some of the best rock bands you'll be screaming along and playing the air guitar in no time.
This disk is complete with the original video's which is great as it brings back memories when you watch some of the long forgotten dance moves, although it's so much fun trying to copy them.
Some of the best songs on this disk are Hole- Celebrity Skin and Nirvana- Come As You Are.
I have played this game with several friends and have had mixed reactions as if your not a fan of rock music then it's not really the game for you but if like me on the other hand you are a natural rock chick then you'll love it.
This is a great addition to the singstar collection and I would recomend it to everyone.

This is singstar. You know what you are going to get. The reputation of the product says it all. This is a game to be enjoyed by you and your mates. In my case after quite a bit to drink on a Saturday night when you have boys and girls together after the pub, and everyone fancies themselves as the next X factor winner.
I like this version, as it includes hits from Bloc Party, Blur, Coldplay, Kasabian, Queens of Stone Age, The Killers, The Hives and Nirvana. Unlike some of the singstar range this has a bit more for the boys to sink their teeth into and makes it more accessible.
The thing I love with singstar is that you think you know a song, and then when it comes to time to perform you realise that knowing the words is only part of it! Still it is great fun! I could never imagine playing this on my own, but with the right people at the right time it is a good way to spend a couple of hours!
Singstar is a karaoke game for the PS2. Using special microphones you sing along to the songs and you are given a score marking you on how well you have sang.
This game is seriously addictive! When I first got it, I would while away hours and hours trying to beat my scores. I am by no means a singer, but this game is great fun.
Singstar rocks is an excellent addition to the Singstar range, as it has a good selection of modern indie songs and rock classics. Some of the highlights are Song 2 by Blur, Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones, and Queen's Don't Stop Me Now.
Singstar is ideal for keeping the children amused (and then you can steal it when they're in bed), for parties, or just for playing with a friend or alone. There are several different modes, including solo, duet, battle, and pass the mic party games.
This was the first game for my Playstation and I got it as a gift. At first I was a bit confused because I could not see myself playing this game with other people and on the other side playing it for myself would not be fun. But one evening a little bit of "fire watter" changed my courage. Me and a bounch of friends started singing, and you would not believe it, we all sucked but it was the greatest fun ever. We just kept on singing and singing. This game has some of the greatest rock songs of the past and presence so it really is fun and most of the tracks are fammiliar to all, the ones that are not are just more fun to sing because you just sound awful. This has now become a must on all parties and sometimes when we have nothing to do me and my friends sing just for fun and since we all know we suck we do not need the "fire watter" anymore.
Singstar Rocks is a great fun game for partys or if you just fancy a singsong to yourself. Great for practicing as it tells you when you're in key or not.
Basically Singstar is just a Karaoke machine, it tells you the words as you sing along but the good part is that it grades you on how good you are at each note, and also on your timing. I haven't played all the Singstar games yet but they all seem to follow the same style.
It comes with two USB microphones which fit into the front of the PS2, they aren't the best mics in the world but they are certain sufficient for this type of game and given the paries I've had they're pretty durable too.
I picked the Rocks version as that is my favourite type of music. To be honest it's not very Rock at all though. Sure it has a Nirvana track and Celebrity Skin by Hole, but it's also filled with Indie stuff like Snow Patrol and less rock songs. With 30 to choose from though you shouldn't get bored too quickly and theres something in there for everyone.
Theres also a neat little option that records you singing and allows you hear it back when grading you. Plus theres lots of little multi-player games to play such as duets and pass the mic,
It's a fun game and great for parties but not really that much in the way of Rock on it.
I bought this game about 3 months after it had came out from amazon.co.uk. When i first got it, i was very impressed with the selection given to me, all that you would expect from a "rock" version, both a selection of old and new.
I was, however, a little disappointed by the amount of songs you had to choose from. After a while, the selection can get a little boring.
The fact that it came with a selection of relatively old songs, such as the rolling stones, and new songs, such as the Killers and KT Tunstall, was a definate positive and that clinched the deal when i bought the game.
The game itself is more of a game that you play with your friends, a party game so to speak, as you can feel a little lonely when you sing alone.
The game is very easy to follow. Even if you cannot sing, the words come up at the bottom of the screen and are highlighted in blue or red when you sing them. The game understands your voice very well.
Thank You for taking your time to read this review.
Ok, so you want to liven up a party. Or you just want to mess about with your mates, this game is actually pretty cool. There are some wicked songs (What You Waiting For, Favorite Game) and there are some classic songs too. As with all Singstar games, there is a selection of songs, but if you like rock, this is the one for you. I enjoyed it, but so does my mum! Worth a gander!
On the face of it a karaoke based game for the play station does not bode well but actually this has turned out to be not all bad and in fact quite a giggle specially when supported by a little bit of alcohol.
I had always ignored the previous versions as the music tended to be mostly cheesy pop tunes however encouraged by the rock version and the inclusion of some great bands like Nirvana and Keane I decided to take the plunge.
Basically the game measures your singing ability whilst you warble away at your favourite tune and in all there are about 30 video songs on the game so there is a decent amount of variety to keep you interested.
Coloured bars on the screen let you know how close you are to matching the pitch and tone of the artist and it is great fun as even the worst singer in the world can get to adapt their voice to score points and you can al so qualify for bonus points if you hit certain notes.
The only real downside to the game is that t does not actually recognise the words you are saying so basically as long as you match the particular singers tone and pitch you can make any noise you like and you will still score points. There are two micro phones to use so it is good for group efforts and a USB cable is also used but you need to buy these separately in addition to the cost of the game.
The range of music is pretty good and there are only a couple of dud tracks, my personal favourite is Queens Dont Stop me Now followed closely by Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones which although well before my time is still a classic.
This game is well worth checking out and Im sure it will make an appearance at Xmas for Granny to do her Maximo Park act. It is available on Amazon for £17.99.
Complete with the original videos, SingStar Rocks! captures the spirit and energy of the very best gigs and gives you the chance to experience what it's like to be the headline act.
